Dear Diary Chapter 18

The subway part 2...
(I’m going for a record, let's see how long this takes me.)

Nick was still beside me, seemingly unafraid of the ghost walking towards us. I thought Nick said he'd killed him. The only thing wrong with Jackie was the bandage on his hand, the small scratch on his left cheek, and that sickening grin on his face. Maybe I should make a teaching gangsters class on how to smile.

He sat purposefully beside me, still smiling. Nick immediately pulled my hand to get up and then made me sit on the other side of him. I didn't want Santoro anywhere near Nick, but I wouldn't argue with Nick so close to danger.

He chuckled a small bit, seeming amused, "Don't worry Nikki, I won’t hurt your little girlfriend. All I want is some insurance that I'm going to get the paper." I really did hate that man.

Nick glared coldly but his words were said even icier, "Go to hell, that's between you and Jhon Altobeli, as far as you know, I have nothing to do with that man." I still held Nick's hand and I squeezed it reassuringly.

Finally the smile left Santoro's face. He sighed, "Unfortunately, you were eating dinner with him, and we heard from a semi-reliable resource that you're his Nephew. She's your girlfriend so if we take her, then you can go track down dis paper that we both know your Uncle has, and bring it to the address I give you when you call this number." He said, placing a card on the seat. "And I'll tell you where to bring the paper and get her back. Sound easy enough?"

Nick stared at him as if he were crazy, which I was beginning to think he was. "Do you honestly think that I'm just going to give you my girlfriend? Honestly?" He continued to stand but before he could go anywhere Jackie pulled out a gun and leveled it at me.

"Or I can kill her. Either way, I will get that paper." As the people from the train noticed the gun, they quietly accumulated their things and went to another car, whichever they were closest to. Nick pulled me behind him to shield me. I fet something against my back and heard a metal clink.

Nick turned, fearfully to investigate the sound. Another man stood at my back, gun pressed firmly against it. Nick's eyes met mine and I could see the calm professional look disappear and panic take it's place. He quickly pulled me against his chest and wrapped his arms around me protectively, then began to back away so that both men were in front of us. He turned in a way that blocked them from my view, and me from theirs. Then I removed his left arm from being wrapped around me and retrieved his own gun.

"As I said before, go to hell." He was pissed at them, it was easy to tell as he spoke. "Your business is not with me and you're sure as hell not getting Ana." We stood there, no one moving and no one lowering their gun."

A door opened behind us and Nick slowly inched us back and out of it. Watching the men as he did. The men didn't move and the door slid closed to block their path. The train moved on and I watched them disappear.

Nick turned to me and hugged me. I kissed him and then he put his gun away and we headed toward the exit. "Where are we going?" I asked, ready to follow him anywhere.

"Home." He said and relief washed over me.

(Woooo! 19 minutes. But my hands hurt. And I have to go to school now... and type somemore. I love you all!!! And I am having an increasingly good time reading your comments. Remember NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE ENDING. People have to die, right? I mean this is a gangster flick. And I’m sorry about all of the premarital love making but hey when you’ve been with a guy since 2nd grade, you have the RIGHT to do whatever you want with him, especially if it's the guy you’re going to marry anyways.)
