Dear Diary 2: Casting Roses

Chapter 1: Stalling and All That That Implies.

I didn't keep a diary anymore. For two reasons, one they were a weakness because anyone could find and read them, and two, there was so much going on in my life right now that I could fill an entire notebook in one day. As a matter of fact, today I could fill two.

We had left for the airport late this morning and almost missed our flight to Houston, where we took a connecting flight to a lesser known county by the name of Maverick. We were supposed to meet my parents in someplace called Dolchberg but got lost on the back roads, which the lovely Nickolas insisted we take to save time because of our late arrival, but now we are completely lost.

Maybe I should explain why exactly we are in Texas. You see we never really told my parents about the engagement. We only told Ava and Vinny. Nick was far too mad at his foster parents to speak to them. I would be too, if my parents didn't tell me that they weren't my parents. Actually that would explain a lot. Humph.

Anyway, my parents are in Texas trying to save some monkey-cat thing by having it moved to a better zoo facility in Montesano. I know, I know your'e asking why they get paid for this, and the answer is... I don't know.

Well, to bring you up to speed, our tire just went flat about fifteen minutes ago and Mr. Ego had to get out and fix it himself, which may be a good idea because I don't think AAA covers the middle of nowhere. Literally there was enless field on one side of us and another endless field on the other. The difference? One was surrounded by a fence. Yeah, it's sad.

I cracked open the door, "Nikki, sweetheart," I asked in my nicest tone, "are you sure you don't need some help?"

He looked up from the tire and glared at me. Offended. "I can fix the stupid tire, I just need the um..." He trailed off, sifting through his tools. Ten to one; he didn't have a clue what he was doing.

"Nick," I whined, "we can just call my parents, maybe this wasn't the best idea anyway."

He stood up and walked over to where I sat, he was so adorable in his black button up shirt that didn't fit quite right because of the size of his muscles. His black hair was in complete contrast with his creamy skin and glittering green eyes. I stared hopelessly into them while he crouched down to be on the same level as me sitting in the car. He took my hands and I couldn't help but smile. I, however, couldn't breathe.

"We have to tell them sometime," he said, twisting the beautiful black pearl ring on my finger. He smiled at the helpless expression on my face.

I sighed, "but I don't wanna" I said, doing my best baby pout.

He leaned in and rubbed his nose against mine. "You won't have to tell them alone. I'll be right there with you."

I frowed, "But what will they think?" He raised an eyebrow, "Okay well, the love you more than they love me, but that might be the problem. What are they going to think we've been doing when they're away? What are they going to ask? What if they ask how long this has been going on? What if-"

He cut me off with a kiss. It was short but I closed my eyes and imagined it being longer. "They'll understand." He said this as he got up and went to the front of the car. I could swear I heard him murmur, "I hope." He motioned for me to join him and I did, slamming the car door behind me, then I waited for it to go off before taking his hand, it was much warmer than I would have expected.

I snuggled against his side and asked, "Where are we going?"

He sighed and said, "we have to walk to town now because I have no idea where the hell we are or how the hell to fix that tire. So we're going to walk..." he turned and examined each endless section of road, "that one." he said turning back to the direction in which we had been headed.

Good, I thought as we moved forward. Forward is a good thing. But I wasn't sure if I was talking about the way to town or our relationship.
