Dead End Street - 4
Chapter 4
Starring at the guy next to me, as if he had magical powers, probably gave his ego a higher boost, if that's even possible. 'He's so cocky' I thought."Now that we are in protected area, we can talk," he said and relaxed. He actually didn't seem so intimidating when he was relaxed.
"Well, let's see we are in 'protected area', which doesn't change the fact that I'm confused beyond belief and did you just make my whole neighborhood disappear?" I whispered for some reason. There was no noise, anywhere. No birds, wind shaking trees, cars driving by, or people talking. It was as if we were in an empty space all alone.
"We are alone here," he burst through my thoughts. "And it would be less rude if you asked questions and pay attention to answers instead of spacing out on me," irritation back in his voice. "I didn't make your neighborhood disappear, but rather took us somewhere else."
He said it so matter of fact, as if that would not raise any more questions. I looked at my feet, like an idiot, but I was still standing on a patch of grass next to the stop sign. I didn't feel that I flew anywhere or looked deep into his eyes to be in a trance, I think I watched way too much TV. I didn't go through any portals that I know. Looking at Jake with "are you serious" look, I thought that this time I'm not the crazy one that I'm in the presence of a lunatic. A very hot lunatic, but crazy anyway.
"I'm not crazy," he said laughing.
"Stop doing that," this was getting annoying. He got to stop reading my mind, even though I knew he doesn't read minds. Many people in my life knew right away what I was thinking, I guess I am easy to read, but his smug hot look made me feel stupid for even talking aloud.
"We are hidden by a computer wall that prevents your people to see us. I'm from the future and my presence in this time cannot be known by anyone."
This guy! I can't believe it, and what would a sane person say to that? Probably turn around and walk away, but for me there was nowhere to go. So I stood there starring at him, once again, at least this time I managed to keep my mouth closed.
"Yeah, this sounds ridiculous, but I am from the future. The only thing is that all I just said to you is in 'If I tell you, I gotta kill you' pile, but since I need you I'm going to have to do something else."
Did he have to pause? This is freaking me out. What can be close to killing and still be good. I couldn't think of anything.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box, my imagination was running wild. He's probably going to make me swallow a pill to forget everything or even better shoot me with a dart to make me his drone.
"Don't be so freaked out, you're going to love it. It's not too advanced, so you will understand how it runs. I enjoy them," he was stating in his matter of fact tone, like everything he was saying made perfect sense to me.
He pulled out a small metallic ball out of the box, about an inch in diameter. 'What can be a bit bigger than a marble, and be dangerous? Sadly it probably can!' Not trusting to speak aloud I was thinking to myself. Jake took out his remote looking thing out again and pressed some more on its screen.
Suddenly the little ball rolled around in his palm and sprung on its "legs". It would have looked like a metallic bug except it didn't have a head or eyes or anything except a metallic ball with four little metallic legs, which made it possible for the ball to move around very smoothly as if it was gliding except it could go side up and upside down.
"Here, this will take care of everything."
"What's everything?" I asked still starring at his extended palm, the little ball jumped
and landed on my shirt.
"Now the Ball will take care of you not telling my secrets. You won't even notice his presence, but the second you start to mention anything that has to do with me or time traveling, he will sting you and you will faint for two minutes. So to avoid that, just don't try to tell anyone and you're golden."
"Ball?" right, out of all the things he just said, the ball's name is the only thing that bothered me. Maybe I'm still pretending that I heard the rest in gibberish and it doesn't pertain to me.
"That's what I call it."
"Wow, no imagination! That thing looks more like a Creepy Little Thing, than Ball."
"Alright, CLT it is then. And I'm the one without imagination?" he laughed.
He actually laughed at me!
"I think that for today it's enough information for you. So come back tomorrow and I will tell you what I need from you." he started walking toward the stop sign, while tapping on the screen of the remote. Slowly the rest of the streets started to show up where the woods were, as if they were never gone to begin with.
"And why do you even need me to help you if you have such technology, way past my time. You wouldn't even have to tell your secret to anyone because you would blend
it."
"I can't go anywhere past the stop sign and I need information from people in your time to get me out of my exile."
