Chappelle’s publicist, Carla Sims, said Tuesday that he checked into an undisclosed hospital in San Francisco on Saturday and was released a number of hours later. Sims said, "It was exhaustion; he had been traveling. He’s fine." No other details were released. Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada reportedly said, "He stayed up and did a show [at the Punch Line Comedy Club]…and at the time he did it, he did not get enough water to drink and had a little bit of dehydration. I spoke to him and he’s okay."

Rumors ran rampant that the 33-year old comedian had checked into rehab after it was reported that he was in a hospital. Masada said, "He’s so thin, and he gets so creative he forgets to eat and drink. I love Dave. I’ve known him since he was 15 years old. His biggest problem is he gets in creative mode and forgets to eat. He’s on stage for six or seven hours. Everybody would have a bottle of water and he’ll have nothing." Chappelle set a record for stand-up at the Laugh Factory on April 15. He reportedly did a stand-up routine for six-hours and seven minutes. The record prior to that was Dane Cook’s three hours and 50 minutes.

Chappelle bailed on a third season of his hit show The Chappelle Show in 2005 giving up a $50 million contract and at least two more seasons of the show. Chappelle’s decision left many to question his mental state. Chappelle ended up in South Africa and denied that he was receiving medical treatment and insisting he just had to "get away from it all." Chappelle only just recently returned to the stage doing stand-up.
