Darkness Falls

A teenage girl who has to choose between life or death. Vampire death of course.
"Elysant get your lazy butt down here! Its your first day of school and you don't want to be late!" I heard my mothers voice from the first floor. I sighed and rolled over.
"Not in your life mom! I'm not going to school! Tell them I'm sick or better yet tell them I'm dead!" I shouted back down to her. I thought she heard me and that I had won the battle because it was quiet for a minute or two, until I heard her footsteps pounding up the stairs to my lodge like bedroom. I instantly closed my eyes when the door flew open.

"Get your butt up!" My mom shouted and with one quick motion she flipped my mattress to one side and I thudded to the ground. "OUCh!" I yelled at her.
"Well look who's finally up. Breakfast is downstairs." My mom smiled and walked out. What the hell is her problem? Is she like bipolar or something? I sighed and got up walking over to my own little bathroom. I jumped in the shower dreading the fact that school was back. I quickly washed my hair and turned the water off wrapping a towel around my body I walked over to the mirror and wiped off the steam. I looked at my reflection and sighed again. I was hoping that over the summer I would some how transform into a prettier, skinnier person that every boy would be drooling over but my wish didn't come true.

My hair was long and dark and I wasn't short but not gorgeously tall either like a super model. My eyes were blue which was the only pretty thing about me, and the fact that my hair was shiny and long. But that was it, there was nothing else special about me. I looked at my whole body and sighed. I wasn't exactly 200 pounds but some days I felt like it. I was not skinny either. I weighed about 140 which is a tad over weight for a girl my age and height.

I turned on the blow dryer and dried my hair and quickly applied some eye liner and lip gloss. I rushed to the closet before my mom came back up the stairs yelling at me. I forgot to do the laundry the day before so I only had a few choices, neither that I liked. They were clothes that my mom had gotten me even though I told her a million times that I wasn't interested in the styles.

I liked long sweaters that covered my body and dark jeans that covered my fat thighs. But in this closet there was a sky blue long sleeved shirt that hugged my stomach and my waist and either a pair of capris or a skirt. I sighed and cursed myself for not doing laundry. "Oh well, might as well start the first day of school new. I'll do laundry tonight as soon as I get home from school." I said to myself.

I removed the skirt and the shirt from the hanger and threw on the clothes. I didn't even want to look in the mirror fearing that I might actually either like what I see or completely hate it. I grabbed my back pack and ran down the stairs.
"Good! Your ready! You should leave now so you don't miss the bus-" My mom stopped and looked up at me. Her eyes were huge. I knew I would look stupid. I was about to walk down to the laundry room to grab some dirty clothes when my mom squealed. "You look absolutely gorgeous! I knew you would like those clothes and I knew they would look lovely on you!" My mom sputtered. She seem like she was going to cry.

My eyes went big.."I'm leaving! Bye"! I grabbed a granola bar from the counter and flew out the door before I saw my mom burst into tears. I slowed down around the corner and sat on the curb waiting for the bus to come.
"ELY!" I heard a voice behind me. I turned and saw my best friend Lexi run towards me. When she saw me her eyes went big too. "Oh hell I don't want to hear it! I didn't do laundry last night and this was all there was." I said. She smiled, "You look absolutely pretty Ely! I really love your clothes. Your going to get a lot of compliments today." She said. I looked at her, "Are you mad? This is the only day I'm doing this. As soon as I get home I'm doing the laundry." I said.

"OH! I bet the new guy Etienne would love it!" She said. I looked at her "Etienne?" I asked. "Yeah! I saw him yesterday at Maccy D's. He was absolutely gorgeous but he payed no attention to me." She sighed.
"For the fiftieth time its either McDonalds or Micky D's! And what do you mean he didn't pay attention to you? You get every guy with the snap of your fingers." I say. She sighed again and looked down at the street.

Its odd for a guy not to pay attention to Lexi. She was one of the prettiest girls in the school and unlike me she loved dressing up and putting make up on. She has long wavy blonde hair with the prettiest blue eyes you could ever look at. She had full lips and curves like a super model. Was the guy wacko or what?

Just then the bus pulled over. I jumped up and followed Lexi in towards the back of the bus where our usual spot was. "Don't worry about the guy Lexi, he is absoultely nuts." I tried to make her feel better. "Oh, I don't care about the guy anymore. I have to admit it hurt me at first but I'm so over him now. I'm looking at going for Dennis again." She smiled. "Dennis? How many times have you two dated?" I asked. "Oh, only about four times. Lighten up Ely, you'll get a guy like Dennis or Etienne too if you start dressing like that from now on. Did I say how good you looked?" I rolled my eyes.

I didn't want to look good. Since I could remember I have always been a social outcast in my school. I never liked playing dolls when I was younger with the other girls. I was always playing football or picking fights with boys at recess. And I've never liked the bright colors like pink or orange. Black or brown has always been my colors. Mix all that in with the fact that I'm pretty much over weight then most of the girls at school and the fact that I dont wear the latest styles and that my parents aren't rich like half the people at our school. I didn't fit in well. Only with Lexi who is the total opposite of me.

I first met Lexi in 6th grade. She moved to Florida from Iowa and she was instantly popular. She was nice and beautiful. One day a few of the girls she hung out with came up to me just before school started and started calling me names like "Ely with the fat belly" And "Four eyes" Lexi stopped them right away and stuck up for me. She called them backstabbing whores who wish they had as much class as me and walked with me the rest of the way too school. We found out we had quite a lot in common although we didn't look like we would. We have been best friends ever since. And yes I realize now that those were childish names but hey we were in the sixth grade. That hurt.

I hadn't noticed that Lexi was talking to me. "What did you say? Sorry." I apologized. She rolled her eyes, "You always do that to me! Space out like that." I shrugged and said sorry again. "I was JUST telling you how I was going to get Dennis." She smiled wickedly. "Now that I think of it. Isn't he dating Rebecca?" I asked. Which made Lexi smile even more. I rolled my eyes and turned my ipod on. I would rather listen to Avril Lavigne then listening to Lexi and her devious plans.

I closed my eyes to get more into the music when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I jumped up which knocked my glasses off and they fell and broke on the floor. "OH NO!" I yelled. I reached down to retrieve them the same time the person that put his hand on my shoulder did. I quickly grabbed them and pulled back my hand. Without my glasses I couldn't really see but I could hear.

"I apologize umm.." "Elysant. My name is Elysant. And you are?" I tried to turn towards the voice. "I'm Etienne." He said in a calm smooth voice. My eyes widened. "Oh here Ely! Your contacts! I told you to carry them with you everywhere!" I heard Lexi's voice. I sat down and realized that I accidentally sat on someone. "Oh I'm so sorry!" I apologized. "Its alright. I didn't mind." I heard Etiennes voice. I blushed and quickly sat down in my own seat. "Oh my goodness. He was so flirting with you!" Lexi whispered.

I blushed even more and grabbed my contacts. I quickly put one in at a time and turned around to see Etienne smiling at me. My breath caught in my throat. He was gorgeous. He had the body of an abercrombie model. Tall with broad shoulders and muscular arms. He was wearing a white t-shirt which hugged his body. I could definitely see some abs. I looked into his eyes and quickly turned away. He had bright blue eyes just like Lexi's and he had short blonde hair.

I tried not to turn around to stare at him. I looked around the bus and noticed that every girl was gawking even Lesley Daniels was drooling! As soon as the bus stopped I jumped to my feet and walked quickly off the bus leaving Lexi behind. I stopped when I realized that I forgot my backpack. I cursed myself for being so stupid and turned around almost running into Etienne. "Forget something?" He asked and held my backpack out. I said thank you and turned to walk away.

"Elysant, thats an unusual name." He said walking by my side now. "Um..yeah I guess." I said and tried to walk even more quickly but he kept pace with me. "May I ask how you got that name?" He kept talking.
"My mother gave it to me." I was getting irritated now. Couldn't he tell that talking to guys was NOT my thing?

"Oh right. But I mean, how did she come up with it?" He asked.
I sighed. "She said it just came to her, like in a dream and she thought it was beautiful. So my name is Elysant Delmelza Brighton." I told him hoping that he would go away.
"Wow, that is extraordinary. But can I ask you one more thing before I leave?" He asked.

"Sure." I said. "Why is it that you don't like me miss Elysant Delmelza Brighton?"He asked with a smile on his face.
"I don't know what you mean." I played dumb. "Oh but you do. Your vibes are off. You don't like me. Why is that?" He asked again.
"Its not that I dont like you its just guys don't usually talk to me and I feel uncomfortable around them." I told him straight forward.
"I see. But I don't see why no guy would talk to you. Your absolutely gorgeous and your very mysterious." He winked at me. I laughed, "Are you mad? I'm not gorgeous and definitely not mysterious. Now if you don't mind I'de like to go to my class." I said and without another word to him I hurried off towards my English class.
