Dark Waters- Chapter 7- Tears
Hearts ache and tears fall. Dreams cause pain and Memories haunt those who have forgotten.
Hunter wakes up slowly, feeling gentle hands in his fur. It was all just a dream. He thinks, feeling relief that here she was, his Amanda, still holding him tight while they were in his bed at Jaclyn’s. He rolls over and looks at Amanda and around the room at Jaclyn’s and frowns. For some reason it all seems slightly foggy, unreal.
As soon as the thought crosses his mind Amanda awakens and smiles at him, her expression gentle.
"Good morning, Hunter," she says timidly. Hunter smiles at her, glad the Amanda from his dream wasn’t real. This was the real Amanda.
"Good morning," he murmurs, leaning over her and kisses her on the lips, gently and lovingly. Amanda kisses back hesitantly and when he pulls back he looks into the uncertainty in her face and suddenly realizes that this isn’t the Amanda he loved. This might be the real Amanda, the one he had first met, but this wasn’t the Amanda he loved. He didn’t love the timid, shy, and uncertain Amanda he had first met but he didn’t love the angry and hatred filled Amanda from the beginning of his dream. The Amanda he loved was the one who was uncertain but didn’t let that stop her. The one that was willing to go through everything in her path to save her friend. The Amanda who had told him he definitely couldn’t sleep in the bed with her but then invited him to lay on the bed next to her because she worried he would be uncomfortable and cold. That was his Amanda. He looks down at the uncertain Amanda and kisses her cheek.
"Goodbye."
Suddenly Hunter’s eyes snap open and he looks around the room at Le Conseil and once again feels arms around him, but these are were gentle and yet sure and made up, not hesitant and shy. He rolls over and looks into Amanda’s wide open blue eyes that showed him nothing and yet showed him everything.
"Amanda…" he whispers, shifting to human form and drawing her into his arms, kissing her fiercely. She kissed him back, making a sound of happy surprise.
"Oh Amanda," he whispers into her ear when he lets her pull away, "I love you so much," he says.
Amanda jerks away from Hunter, her head starting to hurt as she saw light. She was still blind but she could ‘see’ in a way. She saw Hunter’s beautiful face for the first time. His dark hair slightly curled and totally uncombed as he held her. Suddenly memories flash through her head. She remembered. But only bits and pieces. She remembered meeting Hunter in high school, then again in College. She remembered herself mostly, how she had been. Timid, uncertain, hesitant. She could never be that girl again.
"NO!" she screams, gripping her head in pain.
