Daniel Radcliffe Admits to Having Been Drunk on Harry Potter Set
Daniel Radcliffe has recently admitted that he came into work on the set of Harry Potter drunk from the prior evening’s drinking.
Daniel Radcliffe is apparently adjusting to life after Harry Potter better than anyone could have expected. He stars in a newly-released film, "The Woman in Black" that has started out well and he has been making the rounds on talk shows and entertainment shows, as well as making a big bet with Ellen DeGeneres on yesterday’s Super Bowl. But Radcliffe’s transformation in the post-Potter world has some darker elements as well, though things appear to be turning out just fine for the young actor.
Radcliffe, born in 1989, spent most of his formative years working on the set of Harry Potter films. Recently, however, he noted that life was not all fun and games, and that he had some problems to overcome. It turns out that Radcliffe was regularly still drunk while on the set of the latest Potter films, the result of having too much to drink the night before filming sessions.
Noted the 22-year-old, "I went into work still drunk. I can point to many scenes where I'm just gone. Dead behind the eyes. I have a very addictive personality. It was a problem." Radcliffe was sure to stress that he was never actually drinking while working, but that his drinking was so heavy in the evenings after filming that the residual effects during the day were obvious. Says Radcliffe, "People with problems like that are very adept at hiding it. It was bad. I drank a lot and it was … nightly." The very good news for Radcliffe, however, is that he has stopped drinking altogether. He may have to fight the problem again in the future, but right now things seem to be going well. Says Radcliffe, "You either have to change something, or give in to that shame."
