Relationships in the workplace can often go awry, leaving two people who are forced to see and work together each day feeling uncomfortable and, possibly, downright hostile towards one another. Don’t tell that to Danica Patrick though. The NASCAR driver who has made it big as a spokeswoman of GoDaddy and for her chops on the track is dating fellow racer Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. She notes, "I don’t think it was a good idea. [But] there was nothing I could do about it. You can’t tell your heart who to like and not like. It just happened."
Patrick, who is 30, isn’t too concerned about running into an ex-boyfriend on the track, though by dating the 25-year-old Stenhouse she is certainly creating that possibility. She notes, "I know I’m setting myself up for that. But I choose not to think about that possibility right now. I’m going to be positive." Patrick answers such questions with a laugh first, but it’s clear she’s given at least a little bit of thought to the underlying issues.
"Ricky and I have always had that situation where we give each other room [on the track]," Patrick says. "We respect each other on the track. I don't see any reason for that to change." But she also noted that if Stenhouse has an accident while they’re both on the track, she won’t be able to be there for him until after the race has ended. She noted, "We both understand that this is a dangerous sport. We know that things will happen, and we have faith in the safety of the cars and the tracks and the medical staff. If something did happen to him, there's nothing I could do to help. I'd just have to remember that everything that needed to be done to make him safe was being done."
