Dangers of Diet Pills

People who are obese or those who are looking for a shortcut to the perfect hourglass figure are quite tempted to use diet pills, but are unaware of the dangers of diet pills. Let's take a look at the side effects of diet pills.
Dangers of Diet Pills
Of late, diet pills have caught the fancy of all people who seek the perfect body. But, people need to understand that diet pills are an unnatural way of losing weight. In their quest for a better body, people with bulimia nervosa, take diet pills and end up doing greater damage to the body. Let us examine the dangers of diet pills.

What are Diet Pills?
Diet pills can be divided into two basic varieties based on the functions that they perform. They can either be appetite suppressants or those that inhibit fat absorption. The former give you a feeling of being full and reduce your appetite and consumption of food. These work on the simple principle that if you don't feel hungry, you will eat less and thus will lose weight. The latter variety work in a more complex way, hindering the absorption of fat from food. Therefore, we can say that different people opt for either type of diet pills. The ones that want to control their eating, use the appetite suppressing pills; while the ones that want to eat all they want, but don't want to grow fat will use the diet pills that restrict fat absorption.

But is it really that easy? Are layers of fat, accumulated over so many years of following unhealthy eating patterns, going to vanish with a bunch of pills? Maybe. But they are also going to leave lasting damage on your body and health. If you are using diet pills, then it is essential that you should also be aware of the dangers of diet pills.

Diet Pills Side Effects
Let me start with how diet pills may not be effective at all! Sometimes, when we consume appetite suppressants, our appetite may reduce but so will our metabolism rate. Now, this can be counter-productive, as unless your body metabolizes the food faster, you are not going to burn the excess fats in your body. So, when you consume diet pills, it may so happen that your speed of metabolism may reduce and hence, you will only be maintaining the status quo.

There are other diet pills that are stimulants. These are bad for your heart as they artificially raise your heart rate and cause palpitations. This may lead to a number of conditions, such as high blood pressure, dizziness, irritability and sleeplessness.

The diet pills that reduce fat absorption should not be used by those with liver and malabsorption problems or those having gall bladder disease, as the absorption process is already weak. Why should people who do not have any digestive problems, burden themselves with the side effects of diet pills like flatulence, frequent and urgent stools and oily staining of stools? All said and done, fats ARE required by the body albeit in small quantities and not allowing the body its daily requirement of fats will only lead to these health problems.

Another one in the long list of the dangers of diet pills is related to vitamin absorption. What some pills do is that while rejecting the absorption of fats, they also end up rejecting vitamins A, E and K and even, beta-carotene? In the process of avoiding the bad, you are throwing out the good too. Now, why would you want to deprive your body of these essential nutrients?

Dependence itself, is a deadly thing. People who are using diet pills get hooked on using them and the 'alternative' weight loss option that they provide. And, if they don't work, problems of diet pill abuse arise, as people consume more of it thinking that would lead to faster and better results. But, this habit can prove fatal. Just think how many people have died recently due to substance abuse. Some of the most popular names from Hollywood will come to your mind!

So, diet pills are best left alone. The dangers of diet pills are numerous, while the benefits of using them are not many. Overall, it isn't a risk worth taking. Remember, there is no such thing as a quick fix in life. All good things are a result of hard work, sincere efforts and patience. The best way to lose weight is proper exercise and a healthy diet. It may be a slow and tedious way, but it is the best. And, there are no side effects too!!
