Dallas Cowboys’ Terrell Owens Injured Again
After missing most of the preseason practices and games for a mystery hamstring issue, receiver Terrell Owens broke his finger in Sunday’s game and will be out for up to four weeks.
Possibly becoming one of the most expensive benchwarmers on the Dallas Cowboys, Terrell Owens broke his ring finger on Sunday and will be sitting out for two to four weeks, according to team trainers.
"I'm going to try to get back as soon as I can," Owens told the AP. "I feel like I'm a quick healer. Once we have the surgery, the healing process will start."
Owens will likely work hard to recover by Oct. 8 when the team plays his old franchise, the Philadelphia Eagles. But this scenario is one that the public has seen more often than not in Owens’ professional football appearances. He led the Eagles to a Superbowl victory and then missed an entire season with injuries.
"I think my hand got caught on a guy's jersey or something. I kind of felt something weird with it," Owens said. "I just kind of felt like I jammed it. I kept playing. We've got some guys that can step in."
It was evident that something was wrong when Owens missed a number of catches throughout the game. He made three receptions in the first quarter for a total of 19 yards. He missed three other catches which he later attributed to the broken finger. He said the broken digit occurred early in the first quarter. The first quarter in which he was also penalized for lining up in the wrong place.
Luckily for Dallas, wide receiver Terry Glenn picked up the slack with 94 yards out of six receptions, putting Dallas in scoring position three times. One of those three touchdowns was the result of a 40-yard catch by Glenn.
Despite such a stellar reception performance by Glenn, Head Coach Bill Parcells was unhappy with the team’s overall performance. It was a pretty mistake-riddled game considering the Cowboys actually pulled off a 27-10 victory over the Washington Redskins, he said.
"It's hard on me. I'm telling you, it really is," Parcells said. "I feel ill right now."
One thing did please him, however, and that was the prowess of his star quarterback, Drew Bledsoe.
"I thought he made some real good decisions," Parcells said.
