Dachshund Terrier Mix
This birthday, you have got a dachshund terrier mix as a birthday gift. You have no idea as to what kind of dogs they are or what their temperaments are. Well, here is some information that will help you to understand these dogs better. Read on...

The Mix Breed
As the name suggests, these dogs are a mixed breed of dachshund and the terrier dog breed. They can either be of black, brown or tan. Sometimes, there also might be a mixed breed between the dachshunds and the rat terrier dog. But overall, almost all the dachshunds have the same temperaments. Let us see all about them.
Physical Structure
These dogs have a dapple coat like the dachshunds but they are longer just like the coat of the terrier. By nature they are very sweet and they love nothing more than being loved. They are great 'lap dogs', who love to be cuddled all the time. They are short like the dachshunds and they have a long elongated body, like a horizontal cylinder. However, the size of their body is longer than the pure breed dachshunds. The ears usually flops down, as you have noticed in the case of the dachshunds. But some of them might also have ears with fringing standing erect like that of the terriers.
Behavior
They say that a dog wags its tail when they are happy. That means, these terrier mix dogs are always happy as their tail is always wagging. These dogs love to dig anything. If they do not get an opportunity to dig in your garden, they will act as if they are digging maybe on your bed. This I have seen my dog doing. She will dig away as if she is actually digging in the garden. For this they have a slight paddle foot which helps them to dig.
These dogs are very friendly by nature and they love to socialize. Leave them alone and their barking will bring the whole place down! That's what they do when they are alone, bark and cry for their owners. But when they see strangers, they take time to get to know them. But if they do not like one person on the first meet, they will never like them ever. They are good guard dogs and are always alert. Do not go by their size. Even though they are small and tiny looking, they have a very strong voice. They are also very playful by nature and they love to do tricks. The person who teaches them the tricks, is usually more close to them as they spend most of their time with them.
Loves Children and Exercise
The mini mix loves to be with children. So you can trust them with your children, as they are truly the best dog breeds for children. They are also very active, specially the puppies. They love going for long walks and give them open space and they can keep themselves occupied for hours. The parents of these dogs i.e. the dachshunds and the terrier too have the same characteristics.
They are great company to have at home. They will keep you busy and entertained all the time with their funny and playful tactics. They usually live up to a ripe old age of 12 years. But if you provide good dog care to them, then they might live up to 15 years. There is a record of a dachshund terrier mix who is 22 years old and is said to be the oldest dog in the world! So you see, all these dogs need is our care and love. In return they give us joy and the promise of true and long-lasting friendship.
