Cut Your Own Hair

Things You Need
- Good quality scissors
- A comb
- Two mirrors
- Water bottle with a nozzle (to keep the hair damp)
- Hair clamps (required for cutting your hair short, and to hold the hair in place)
- Electric hair clipper (to give a buzz haircut)
- Wash your hair with a shampoo and towel dry. Make sure your hair is not wet or dry but just damp. For coarse or dry hair, use a hair care product like a conditioner or hair serum.
- Comb your hair straight.
- Decide the length of hair you want after your cut. For curly hair, choose the length longer because curly hair shrinks and appears shorter after it dries.
- Follow the above mentioned three basic steps.
- Now, sit in front of a large mirror.
- Part your hair in the middle.
- Make small sections of hair on both sides of the parting, and hold these sections in place with the help of hair clamps. This will make cutting your own hair easier, as hair won't fall on your face.
- Loosen one section of the hair near the beginning of the parting. Comb the hair straight, hold it between your index and middle finger and cut it carefully. Then, cut the hair at the length you have decided. You can tie this hair at the top of your head with the help of a hair clamp.
- Repeat step 5 for all the sections of your hair.
- Now check if the hair on both sides is evenly cut. You can check the symmetry of the hair on the sides of parting by holding some hair on both sides. Bring these two ends at the center of your face. Repeat this by taking other ends of the hair and bringing them at the center of your face. - To cut your own hair in layers, first follow the three basic steps.
- Bend over, so that the top of your head is facing the floor.
- Comb all your hair straight down.
- Now, carefully start cutting your own hair in a straight line. If you have thick hair you may need to cut it more than once. It is important to maintain a straight line to layer cut your own hair.
- Facing the mirror, comb your hair with middle parting and check.

After you are done with the top, set the blades of the clipper for the sides and the back, and start running the clipper at the sides and the back of your head.
- Check in the mirror to see if you have cut your hair properly. If not, continue to cut your own hair till you are satisfied with the result you have achieved.
