Cure for Constipation

Constipation can be effectively treated by consuming foods high in fiber, staying hydrated by taking plenty of water and use of medicines (laxatives).
Constipation is a disorder that is typically marked by infrequent, painful bowel movement. In this condition, bowel evacuation literally becomes an uphill task as the stools are no longer bulky and soft. The stools formed are dry and hard, thus making them difficult to pass. Unhealthy eating habits and dehydration are the main causes of constipation.

Increase Water Intake
What can be the easiest way to get relief from constipation? It is none other than drinking plenty of water. Having 7-8 glasses of water everyday can surely prevent formation of hard stools. Keeping the baby well hydrated by giving fluids, at regular intervals is the right approach to treat constipation. Feeding the baby vegetables and fruits and 3-4 ounces of warm water can work wonders to stimulate bowel movement. Also, give the baby prune and apple juice, as they act as 'stool softeners' and can induce bowel movement. Massaging the baby's stomach with soft hands can also promote bowel movement. This is an effective way to comfort the baby and may trigger a bowel movement immediately. Foods such as banana and rice need to be avoided as they encourage the formation of hard stools. For babies, laxatives are available in powder form but one has to consult a doctor before feeding these medicines.

Constipation during pregnancy is uncommon and treatment plan to get rid of constipation in pregnant women is the same. The doctor advises to eat high fiber foods, drink plenty of water and perform exercises (walking), as these lifestyle modifications act as a cure for constipation during pregnancy.
