Credit Repair in 5 Steps
Credit repair can be done in as little as five steps. It does not have to be difficult, but the steps have to be followed.
Credit repair does not have to be difficult. In fact, the "how tos" of credit repair are actually quite simple, its the implementation of these steps that can become difficult when seeking to improve your credit score. However, today I will share with you the 5 steps to follow to repair your own credit and improve that credit score.
First, in order to repair your credit, you need to know what is keeping it from being higher than it could be! You need to review your credit report. You can do this by getting a free credit report, and reviewing it in detail. As you review your credit report, you will begin to see what may be causing your credit score to be lower than it should be. In fact, the credit report itself will give you a description of why your score is not higher!
Second, implement the recommendations that are provided on your free credit report. For example, your credit report may say that your score is not higher because your balances are just too high. The simple fix is to pay down some of your credit cards. In fact, keeping your credit balance below the 50% level is always a good idea.
Third, in order to do credit repair, contact the companies that you may have late payments with. If for some reason or another you are currently behind on your debt obligations; make it right! Call financial institutions on the phone and let them know that you want to come clean. If needed, these companies may be able to put you on an alternate payment plan if this is necessary.
Fourth, clean up any collection accounts... this will really help to repair your credit score. Bad credit can happen for many reasons, but allowing debt accounts to go to collections is one of the biggest! Contact these companies by letter or phone to take care of these obligations. If there are any errors on your credit report in regards to these accounts, you can contact the credit agencies directly as well to clean it up.
Fifth, always pay on time in the future. As difficult as it sounds, credit repair is often times no more difficult than simply paying your bills on time. Focus on getting your payments in on time and you will be amazed at what can happen.
Now of course there may be many other situations that may be affecting your credit score. All of those individual situations cannot be covered here. However, you will find free credit information; including many lesser known credit repair techniques in the resource information below.
