Technology has allowed the average business owner to be able to do lots of things they would normally have to pay a professional to do; payroll, logos, and online banking can now all be done with the click of a mouse. Another thing that a business owner can do on their own is create and print their own business cards. With the right products and for minimal cost a business card can be created that looks and feels professional.

Just because you are making your own cards it does not mean you should cut corners. A business card is a personal form of advertising, it is there to connect you name with the product or service that your company offers. This is not a general form of advertising, other forms of advertising focus on the company specifically and less about the owner or the sales person. Remember when you give someone your business card, more than likely you are going to be the person doing it. The way your potential customer or client views you is going to be how they view your business card, and how they view the business card is going to be how they view you.

Remembering the impression you want to leave with your potential client is important when you are picking out the basics for your business card. Make sure you use quality paper that is made specifically to print business cards on. The paper should have minimal perforations so your business cards will not look unprofessional from rough edges after you tear them apart. Secondly, take the time to access a program that will offer you quality templates; Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher are good places to start.

You do not have to keep the template exactly the same but it will give you a good place to start. Do not feel you are stuck with an exact design within a template; changes can easily be made so that you are able to personalize the card. After you personalize the card to your liking it is time for you to print it. Use the highest quality setting on your printer, so that you can get the quality printing that a professional will provide. Print a test copy first, look over the test copy for spacing errors, spelling errors, and any other dislikes. If you find any mistakes, go back and correct them. After you correct any mistakes begin to print the cards on the paper you selected.

Remember to take pride in your business cards; they are representation of you and your business, it is always easy to take pride in something you made yourself. It does not take a great amount of expertise to produce quality free business cards, just patience and a quality template to start with.
