Grandparents are truly one of the most pleasant influences in a child's life. They are simply a joy to have around with their unconditional love and support. Very often in our busy lives we take out the time to appreciate them and let them know how much they mean to us. Although we treat them with utmost respect and value them every single day of our life, there is also a special day to celebrate their presence in our lives. The national Grandparents Day is a day celebrated in the United States and Canada on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

Arts and Crafts Ideas for Grandparents' Day

Although you could arrange a wide number of fun day activities for your children and their grandparents to enjoy, encouraging them to try out some handmade crafts can be a great way for the grandkids to express their love and affection to their grandparents. Kids' crafts can be very innovative and extremely adorable and are guaranteed to touch the hearts of the doting grandparents.

Pill Box

A pillbox is a very affectionate gesture to both / either grandparent. You can use cardboard, hard plastic planks or Styrofoam to make a seven-compartment box. Use superglue to fasten the planks and sheets to make the box with seven equal compartments. Now create seven different lids for these compartments. You can even superglue Velcro patches or press-buttons to close the lids. Now color the pillbox with a blank paper and spray paint it. Now on each lid write the names of the weekdays starting with Monday to Sunday. Try to decorate the box with personalized messages like " Love you Grandma" or "Its Wednesday Grandpa, don't forget your medicine!". Use sparkle pens and colorful paper cuttings and beads to make the pillbox look more attractive.

The keepsakes can be sweet little things that the grandchildren make for their grandparents. The kids' can make pen stands, bookmarks, photo frames, coffee mugs, bags, caps or even customized t-shirts made using fabric paint and other decoration accessories. In order to personalize these gifts you can add quotations about grandparents or messages like " World's Greatest Grandpa" or "Super Granny". Nothing will make a granny happier than carrying around her personalized tote that says "World's best Grandma" or a grandpa using a handmade bookmark while reading! These keepsakes will not only be fun to make for the kids but the doting grandparents will definitely appreciate the love behind the efforts.

Making a scrapbook is a very creative activity for children in addition to being a great gift for the grandparents. Add old photographs taken with the grandparents and beautiful poems and quotations about grandparents to make the scrapbook a warm memorabilia of all the fond memories for the grandparents. In case you need to make things a bit easier for the kids, you can provide them with a scrapbook kit as well. Try to get the scrapbook in a hardbound cover or laminated, so that the both grandparents can cherish it forever in its good condition.
