Cracks Appearing in Kardashian Brand
With ratings falling and promoters now balking at their appearance fees, the Kardashians' descent to actual reality may have started.
It seems like just yesterday that the Kardashians were the hottest thing going, even if no one could really understand why. They became some sort of self-fulfilling prophecy in the entertainment world. People always questioned why they were famous, but constantly discussing that question and pointing out their lack of talent or entertainment value, ironically, made them more famous. But the lack of substance and talent may finally be catching up to the Kardashian clan.
A recent report from the New York Post indicated that the Kardashian brand is fading fast, citing poor ratings for their television shows and declining magazine sales when any member of the family graces the cover. And while there are many among us who would claim that the Kardashian phenomenon lost its sizzle a long time ago, it's probably safe to point to the Kim Kardashian wedding debacle as the real catalyst for the collapse of the empire.
The failed 72-day marriage of Kim Kardashian to Kris Humphries seemed to serve as a wake-up call to the millions of drones who were apparently following the lives of the Kardashians and spending money on their products. And while that was certainly a public relations and image disaster for Kim, I'm betting that the Kardashians have at least a few more "dead cat bounces" left in them before they disappear for good.
After all, what do you think is going to happen as soon as Kim Kardashian starts dating a celebrity or famous athlete? Yes, she's going to be on the cover of every tabloid magazine and people are going to start watching the show again because the curiosity is going to drive them crazy. And while all of that is incredibly sad, it's also very true.
