Home remodeling can be a costly project. With a number of things to be worked on and each of them seeming to be an important one, the expenses might exceed your budget. Finding cheaper, but quality options is what you try to do in such cases. Many things like changing wall paint colors, replacing damaged tiles, adding a wall tile and making new cabinets don't have options. But if you are planning to get a new countertop, just because the existing one looks 'not so attractive' or is a bit damaged, let me tell you that you can smartly save this expense. Heard about countertop resurfacing? Check out.

What is Countertop Resurfacing?
Well, let us first understand the concept of countertop resurfacing. It is basically a process that avoids the replacement of entire countertops. The procedure followed helps give a bright new look to your countertop in lesser expenses. There are two different types of procedures that you can opt for countertop resurfacing. Well, let me tell you that though you can hire a professional for this job, this is also a do it yourself project which you can consider working on with the help of one of your family members. If time is a constraint and if you are not confident enough, it is best to appoint a professional and get the best output.

Countertop Resurfacing: Procedure #1
The first one includes, stripping off the existing laminate of the plywood countertop. After this is done, the glue is scrapped off. You can opt for a stripper to dissolve the glue and use a paint scrapper. Now use a medium grade sandpaper to sand the surface to make it smooth. Once you are done, you will just have a counter which is a plain, clean surface. Now the surface is ready to be worked on.

Apply the glue on this surface. Make sure that the glue is applied evenly on the entire surface. This is an important step as the laminate is thin and an uneven layer of glue beneath it can lead to uneven appearance of this laminate. So, check the layer and get the laminate sheet. There are numerous options available in laminates in terms of colors and designs. Pick the one to match with the decor of that room. Like for kitchen countertop resurfacing, you can match the new laminate with that of the kitchen cabinets. Now just lay it flat on this glued surface. Use a large roller to flatten the laminate, this will also help remove any air bubbles. Once this is done, leave it for drying. It is best to have a bit larger piece of laminate and then cut off the overhang so that the edges are flush with the counter. You can also consider adding extra border of contrast laminate once you are an expert in this task.

Countertop Resurfacing: Procedure #2
For a badly damaged countertop, the aforementioned procedure is known to be an idle one. But in case your existing countertop is in good condition, you can just work on the existing piece. All you need to do is use a medium grit sandpaper and scratch the laminate surface thoroughly. When you have finished working on entire length of laminate, just remove the dust formed over it. Now spread glue on this surface evenly. As mentioned above, it needs to be done carefully. Now lay the new laminate over it. Finish by flattening it with a roller. This procedure takes much lesser time.

If you are wondering about concrete countertop resurfacing or granite countertop resurfacing, let me tell you that these two tasks must be left for the professionals. You can try to work on thin granite tile resurfacing, but for resurfacing full granite top, its best to call a professional. This will ensure that you get the best results and a great looking countertop. The above mentioned procedure of resurfacing the countertop is cost-efficient way to spice up your interiors. All the best!
