Costa Blanca Destinations – Cabo Roig

What to see and what to expect in the fabulous Costa Blanca resort of Cabo Roig
If you are thinking of heading to Spain and are looking for a seaside holiday, then Cabo Roig on the Costa Blanca may be just the place for you. Located on the popular Orihuela Costa section of the Southern Costa Blanca, Spain, Cabo Roig is an exclusive and beautiful resort. There are plenty of great beaches to enjoy in Cabo Roig and also a good variety of bars and restaurants. The popularity of the resort is reflected in the large number of tourists who come back year after year to enjoy the sun, sand, sea and sangria.

One of the best known sights in Cabo Roig is the 16th century watchtower around which Cabo Roig primarily grew. The watchtower was one of many built along this coast to look out for approaching Berber pirates who frequently attacked villages along the coastline. The watchtower now looks down on the recently renovated marina with its 200 plus moorings.

Cabo Roig boasts a couple of excellent clean sandy beaches and these a big draw for the holidaymaker during the hot summer months, they do however rarely get uncomfortably packed and you can usually find a nice spot to sit and enjoy some serious sunbathing. The beaches are well maintained and safe for children and pedalos are available for hire for those who want a little exercise and adventure.

One of the most popular things to do whilst in Cabo Roig is to take a stroll along the picturesque cliff walk to La Zenia. This walk provides some wonderful views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding coastline, with the exclusive resort of La Manga laying invitingly in the distance. Construction work is currently being done on some stretches of the coastal path, currently at La Zenia and Playa Flamenca and the planned promenade and coastal path should eventually run from Torrevieja all the way to Campoamor, it will then surely be one of the best walks along the Costa Blanca coastline.

On a visit to Cabo Roig you can generally expect warm, sunny weather and the area is blessed with over 300 days of sunshine every year. Summer temperatures are hot but not uncomfortable as Cabo Roig enjoys a cooling sea breeze, the winters are mostly sunny but with cool evening and night time temperatures – the average for the year is around twenty degrees centigrade. You will be unlucky to encounter rain but what does fall is usually during the winter.

After a day in the sun most visitors head for the bustling Cabo Roig strip with its ever increasing selection of bars and restaurants offering food, fun and frolics to suit every taste. There are some excellent restaurants providing dishes from around the world including Spanish, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Hungarian, German, English and Irish.

There is lots to do in and around Cabo Roig, why not start with a trip into the nearby town of Torrevieja, with it’s wonderful promenade and marina and it’s many fine beaches? If you are visiting during the summer months, don’t forget the Aqua Splash park with it’s gigantic slides and excellent picnic area. If you feel a little more adventurous you may wish to try out the go-karts at Punta Prima, here you can drive the full size karts or the kids can have a go on the mini karts or even the mini quads. In the summer the circus comes to town and this is a great attraction for the children and adults alike, being an old style circus, it has plenty of animals performing tricks to amaze and entertain. The younger at heart may enjoy a trip to the busy resort of Benidorm, a journey of around an hour and a half (a coach picks up in Cabo Roig a couple of times a week). Sporting enthusiasts may partake of the golfing, the water sports (the water sport resort of La Manga is only a 40 minute trip), or the fishing – there are angling safaris available for those preferring fresh water angling.

Cabo Roig a beautiful place to be – no wonder they call it "the jewel of the Costa Blanca".

Cabo Roig is easily reached by way of the N-332 coastal road (Cartagena to Alicante) or from the AP-7 motorway junctions 768 or 763. The closest airport is Murcia (San Javier) which is approximately 20 minutes drive away.
