Cosmetic Dentistry
Commonly known as the ‘smile makeover’ read on to know more about Cosmetic Dentistry…
While a smile makeover helps improve the appearance of the smile with the help of one or more cosmetic procedures, a full mouth reconstruction includes treatment for various functional problems with the teeth and surrounding muscles and also addresses issues like severe wear of the teeth and pain.
Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures
Here are the description of the cosmetic dentistry procedures used by dentists across the world:
- Dental Fillings: is a form of restorative dentistry treatment and is used in cases of minimal tooth fractures, tooth decay and damaged surfaces of the teeth. The fillings used include silver amalgam, porcelain and composite.
- Bonding: is a completely painless and non-invasive and serves as a excellent solution for chips, crookedness and gaps between the teeth.
- Tooth Whitening: also known as ‘teeth bleaching’ is a very common and most requested dental procedure which helps in enhancing the smile by reducing the discoloration and staining of the tooth which is a very common problem as the teeth are porous and very susceptible to stains and discoloration. There are two ways in which you can get your teeth whitened. The first way is to visit your dentist who will apply a whitening gel on your teeth. Alternately, you can use products prescribed by your dentists at home or even over the counter products like whitening strips. The procedures performed by your dentist will last longer than the self help procedures. But in any case, you will have to repeat the procedures once in every three to six months depending on how well you take care of your teeth after the initial whitening procedure.
- Veneers: are made of tooth like ceramic material and are custom designed jackets which can cover the worn tooth enamel, spacing, chips and cracks. This form of treatment is usually used when procedures like bonding and whitening are not helpful in improving the smile.
- Dental Implants: are artificial tooth replacements used in cases of tooth loss. This procedure is a part of prosthetic dentistry and cosmetic dentistry as well. The replacements are strong, durable and are also the most effective dental procedures for treatment of missing teeth which allow the patient to use the teeth to its maximum utility.
- Gum Lift: is a cosmetic dental procedure that helps raise and sculpt the gum line. The procedure normally includes reshaping the tissue along with the underlying bones that helps create an appearance of symmetrical and longer teeth.
You need to be very careful in identifying a good cosmetic dentist for two main reasons. The first main reason is that it is your teeth in question here. We certainly do not want our teeth and smile to end up in a bigger mess than it already is in. The second main reason is that cosmetic dentistry can be a very expensive affair and it is not a smart idea to pay money to dentists who are not competent enough.
It is always advisable to ask your friends or relatives if they can recommend a cosmetic dentist with whom they have received treatment successfully. If they have not been able to help in any way, then before setting up an appointment with dentist ensure that level of experience of the dentist has in cosmetic dentistry including their participation and level of accreditations in various organizations like American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry which mandates adherence to ethical standards, rigorous studies and examinations before a dentists qualifies as an accredited member. Also, once you have narrowed down on a dentist, ask for a cosmetic dentist treatment plan that will give you an idea of the analysis and solutions that you will probably receive from your dentist.
Well, if you are unhappy with your smile or need any form of restorative teeth surgery then all you need is to find a good dentist near you who will soon fix all your dental problems and ensure that you end up with the million dollar smile!
