Cooking Crab Legs

Crab leg meat makes for the most succulent and sweet meat of the king crab. It, at the same time, has a relatively mild taste. Since crab legs are cooked before they are frozen to preserve the richness of the crab legs, cooking crab legs is more of reheating them. There are many methods, which can be used to cook frozen crab legs, like steaming crab legs, preparing them on the grill, microwaving them, boil them, etc. Before you begin to cook crab legs, it is important to thaw them well. Crab legs should be thawed in the refrigerator overnight. Once you thaw them, make sure you cook them immediately, as crab legs lose their freshness and taste. Hence, it is also recommended not to buy thawed crab legs. We will now how to cook frozen crab legs.

Steaming Crab Legs
  • In a steamer or a large pot pour 2 cups of water, add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water and bring it to a boil.
  • Place the crab legs into the steaming basket and place the steaming basket into the steamer for cooking king crab legs.
  • When the water comes to a boil again, start the timer.
  • After about 5 to 7 minutes, you will begin to smell their aroma.

  • Once they are cooked, remove the crab legs from water, rinse them and they are ready to be savored.
Grilling Crab Legs Method
  • Brush crab legs with olive oil on all sides, to prevent them from sticking to the grill before grilling them.
  • Place the crab legs on hot grill of about 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Cook on both the sides for about 5 minutes each until they are heated all the way through.
  • Turn them in between to prevent them from burning.
  • Remove the legs from the grill and serve with melted butter and lemon wedges or with sauce of your choice.
Baking Crab Legs
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degree Fahrenheit, to bake crab legs.
  • Crack open the whole crab legs and place them on a baking tray.
  • Brush the legs with butter or olive oil, seasoning of your choice, and lemon juice and place them in a baking tray.
  • Bake in the oven for 8 to 9 minutes, until they are thoroughly cooked.
Microwaving Crab Legs
  • When you want to microwave the crab legs, wrap them in a damp paper towel.
  • Place them in the microwave and cook on high for 2 to 4 minutes, until they are well cooked.
  • Serve them hot with melted butter and lemon wedges or sauce of your choice.
We have just seen the various methods, which you can use to cook crab legs, however, they can also be served cold. You will need to defrost them to room temperature and use them to make crab salad or simply serve cold crab legs with mustard sauce or with hollandaise sauce or with some onion, and tomato salad.
