Every now and then, we witness debates roaring on several controversial issues. This article informs its readers about issues that have become topics of heated discussions and debates this year...

Controversies must exist, as they're the fuel for growth and development. Controversial issues challenge our beliefs, ideas and ideologies, thereby showing us the path, that must be logically and rationally adhered. Generally, there is no end and apt conclusion of controversial issues. People are always divided into three schools of thoughts when it comes to any controversial issues. People either stand for or against any controversial issue or are neutral towards it. The year 2010, as is advancing towards an end, has seen some controversial issues being discussed on the global platform. What are the issues that have become a topic to talk, all across the globe. Particularly, what are the controversial issues in America 2010? Let's find out more about some of the most debated topics in the world currently.
Top Controversial Issues of 2010
Most of the issues revolved around social, political, economic and environmental issues. With the social structure of society changing at a drastic pace, every issue seems to be interlinked and interwoven in a labyrinth of various causes. Following are some of the most controversial issues of 2010, that have brought the world community on a common platform.
Should Homosexuality be Accepted or Discouraged by Society?
With pop star Ricky Martin coming out with his frank acceptance of his sexuality, that he is a gay, the issue of homosexuality has become one of the most discussed topics in today's world media. In almost every country, be it Asian or western or European countries, 'gay/lesbian rights' have become a topic that are now dealt in court rooms. 'Legalize homosexuality' is the cry of all activists and supporters of homosexuality. While those who oppose homosexuality, call it to be against human nature, the supporters of it, on the other hand, are all gung ho about marrying their homo partners and live a peaceful life. Some countries where same-sex marriages are legal include The Netherlands (2001), Belgium (2003), Spain (2005), Canada (2005), South Africa (2006), Norway (2009), Sweden (2009), Portugal (2010), Iceland (2010), and Argentina (2010).
Should Environmental Protection and Global Warming be a Global Agenda?
I was scared to the core, after I saw Al Gore's magnificent effort to show us the 'Inconvenient Truth' but was equally plagued by the idea as to why countries are divided amongst themselves when it comes to environmental protection. With carbon credits emerging as a major international business tool to even manipulate emissions of Greenhouse gases, it's highly likely that carbon credits are under the evil spell of international political diplomacy. If all these problems are not enough, time and again skeptics have debated madly on the subject like global warming. Major environmental issues are getting lost somewhere. Proponents of economic progress support liberalism in every aspect while those who're realizing the grave problem of environmental pollution are fighting tooth and nail to correct it.
Must Abortion be Banned?
While the US has legalized abortion under certain circumstances, is abortion ethical, remains to be one of the most controversial issues of all time. In some countries, abortion is permitted only on some socioeconomic grounds while in some it's dependent on 'n' number of factors. But the question that divides people into two is, 'if you can't create a life, how can you take it'?
Is Stem Cell Research Ethical?
Merits and demerits of stem cell has been established now. But the core issue remains the same; is stem cell research ethical? Is killing of pre-embryos by destroying blastocysts (formed from laboratory fertilized eggs) in the conception period ethical?
Should Drugs be Legalized?
No matter there are infinite number of health demerits of consuming drugs, there is a section of people who challenge the laws on drugs as illegal and inhumane. "Drugs consumption and usage must be an individual's choice and there should be no laws governing them", so says, a group of drug enthusiasts.
