My friend used contact lens for the first time in his life, to impress his first date. Everything went smoothly, until he arrived home and exclaimed, "Ouch!" the contact lens was stuck in his eye. The more difficult thing than removing the contact stuck in your eye is to remain stable and not to panic. After this incident his dates with contact lenses continued. Every time the contact lens were stuck, we tried different methods to remove it. I am listing some of the methods to help you when such an incidence occurs.

Removing the Contacts
  1. First and foremost, don't panic, be in control of the situation. In most cases, this happens because of the dryness of the eye so few drops of contacts re-wetting drops or saline solution can give some comfort to the eye.
  2. Now pull the eyelid down and look upward then with your index finger try to touch the edge of the contact lens and pull it downwards or on the white part of the eye. You can take help of someone or do it yourself
  3. This method can effectively be used to remove the soft contact lens. When you are removing the contacts with your fingers, make sure your hands are clean and washed with soap.
  4. When you are sliding the lens on the white part do it gently or else you can injure the eye, once the lens is visible on the white part pinch it to take it out of the eye
  5. If the above method doesn't work or is too painful you can try touching or locating the contact lens with your eyes closed. After you locate it with your finger try to move it around with your eyes closed.
  6. Now bend down and lift your eyelid with your index finger and simultaneously widen your eyes and gaze downwards, the contact will pop out of the eye.
  7. If it's a hard contact lens, then you can use a suction holder or contact lens plunger, it is available in the market and is very easy to use.
  8. First moisten the cup of the suction device then place it on the lens make sure it is placed on the lens and not the bare part of the eye
  9. The lens will stick to the dampened or moist side of the plunger after which it can be easily removed. Do not panic if the contacts are stuck at the back of your eye or are tough to grasp as it is just a misconception, contact lens can never get stuck at such an odd/impossible place.
  10. You can also try the blink method, which involves looking down and blinking the eyelids vigorously, you can feel the location of the lens as you blink if it reaches the white part of the eye and is visible it will pop out when you blink if it doesn't happen, you can pinch and grab it out of the eye.
  11. If you are not able to remove the lens and are experiencing dis-comfort and severe pain, you should put re-wetting drops in the eyes for some comfort and visit the doctor immediately.
  12. Your contacts will get create issues for you if you don't put them properly.
