A constant stuffy nose accompanied with sneezing can be caused due to several reasons that range from allergies to a bacterial infection. In the following article, we shall look through the causes and the treatment of this condition.

Causes

The following are some of the main reasons that could lead to a stuffy nose. A reading through these will help you key in on the reasons why you are suffering from this condition. This, in turn, will allow you to choose the needed treatment.

Allergies
One of the main reasons that a constant stuffy nose is brought about is due to an allergic reaction. You'll notice that a particular season or a place leads to a lot of sneezing followed by a stuffy nose. This happens because the body reacts to the particles in the air and leads to allergic reactions in the body. Allergies could be caused by pollen, dust, animal fur and dander, mold and/or food products. When these enter the body, the body perceives them as being dangerous and produces allergens to fight these foreign objects. The allergens lead to the varied symptoms of allergies, one of which is a stuffy nose.

Infections
Infections that are caused by air-borne viruses and bacteria is another reason that leads to a stuffy nose. Along with this reason, infections could also be caused due to the constant touching of one's nose with the hand and thereby transferring the bacteria to the nose. With the bacteria and virus in the nose, the body increases the blood flow to the nose making it swell and thereby constricting the nose passage. Along with that, the body also produces mucus to fight the bacteria. Thus the nose gets blocked.

Other Reasons
There are certain other medical conditions that could lead to this condition. These include acute sinusitis, vasomotor rhinitis and structural abnormalities like adenoid facies, concha bullosa and septal deviation among others. All these lead to one form or the other of nasal congestion and obstruction and cause a lot of discomfort. It can also cause a sore throat in many accompanied by a blocked stuffy nose. Along with the constantly stuffy nose and sore throat, there is also a lot of pain.

Remedies

There are certain effective stuffy nose remedies that have been formulated and that is what we shall be looking into the following paragraphs:
  • For immediate relief, take steam with either a humidifier or a simple hot water vessel, covered with a towel. Pour eucalyptus oil or a nasal relief balm in the water for better results.
  • Eating spicy foods like chillies and paprika helps clear the blocked nasal passage and clears the stuffy nose.
  • Consuming antihistamines and decongestants in the form of over the counter drops and medication is a great way to get the blocked nose free.
  • Using salt salines for the nose is another way by which the symptoms can be dealt with.
  • Applying cold water strips over the nose have known to clear the congestion as well.
While these methods lead to immediate relief, the need is to be aware of what is causing the condition. If it is an infection that is caused by allergies or due to certain viruses or due to acute sinusitis then sinusitis antibiotics can be administered for the same. It is necessary to deal with these conditions at the base so that the treatment works. Another pointer that has to be kept in mind is the need to avoid smoking and/or inhaling cigarette smoke. This leads to a lot of irritation and causes the condition to aggravate.

This condition, though uncomfortable and awkward, and can impact on our daily activities, can be sufficiently treated. In this article we looked at some of the reasons that could lead to a constant stuffy nose and the way in which stuffy nose relief can be brought about. Hoping that it has helped.
