All of us face a throbbing pain in the head every now and then, which is known as headache. Unlike any other symptom, headache erupts suddenly from nowhere. For most of us, headache is an occasional symptom but there are many others who have to face constant headaches. In a specific season, some people experience headache the moment they wake up in the morning. Why this happens, we will see later, first let us understand a little about headaches in general. If a muscle around the skull spasms, a headache is caused. Chronic headache can last for hours or even days. You yourself can find the root cause of your constant headache, as most of the time it is caused due to allergens, excessive intake of caffeine, etc. The following are some of the most common causes of constant headache, followed by some effective treatments.

Constant Headache Causes
  • Chronic Migraine: People suffering from chronic migraines generally face the problem of constant headaches everyday. If the constant headache is caused due to chronic migraine, you will experience throbbing pain only on one side of the head and even routine physical activity can aggravate the pain. Keep a check on the foods you eat as some foods are said to aggravate the condition.
  • Excessive Stress: Excessive stress can be one the cause of your constant headache. We do not realize but constant stress can lead to various symptoms like headache and fatigue. To treat headache caused due to stress, there is only one solution, reduce stress. You can take help of meditation and yoga to reduce stress.
  • Infection or Head Injury: If a person is suffering from infections like meningitis, constant headaches can be one of the symptom. However it is also accompanied by other symptoms like stiff neck and nausea. Head injury can be one of the reasons.
  • Allergies: If you are allergic to certain things and come in contact with them daily, you may face the problem of constant headache. Some of the common allergens are mold, mildew and pollen. These allergens can trigger your headache, so keep a check on your surroundings, and stay away from them. If you are not sure what you are allergic to, maintain a diary of things that you eat throughout the day. Also note down the things that generally surround you when you get a headache. A doctor may prescribe medicines that can help control the allergic reaction.
  • Other Causes: Besides the above given causes, there might be some other causes like sinusitis infection, need of spectacles, aged cheese, dental problem, hypertension, sleep apnea, etc.
All the above causes can be treated with medication. For instant relief, you can put an ice pack where it hurts the most. Some other remedies like applying a cut lemon or massaging with essential oils can also provide relief. If the headache is caused due to sinusitis, taking steam will surely provide a lot of relief. Add a few drops of essential oils, as they can soothe the inflamed airways. Eucalyptus and sage are said to be the best.
