Probably the best seventh generation gaming console to hit the market, Nintendo Wii is the highest selling console in the world as of now. What gives the device a high 'coolness' rating is its unique combination of features which includes the Wii controller, that can sense three dimensional movement and the range of Wii games that are offered on the Nintendo platform. Besides possessing all the features that contribute to create the ultimate gaming experience, you can use Wii to connect with the Internet. Its built-in Mitsumi DWM-W004 Wi-Fi 802.11b/g adapter provides you with wireless Internet access. Using a LAN adapter, it can also be connected with a wired Ethernet based Internet connection.

There are three ways in which you can connect your Nintendo Wii to Internet. One is by connecting it to your home wireless network. Second option is to connect it to a wired network and third is to connect it via a PC, which is connected to the Internet.

Connecting Wii to Wireless Internet

The built in 8021.11g wireless adapter of the Nintendo Wii game console lets you directly connect to wireless Internet. To begin connecting Wii to Internet, first make sure that your wireless router is switched on and it's connected to Internet. Next, power up your Nintendo Wii after connecting it with the television set, for configuring the Internet connection. Switch on the television set and take up the Wii remote control. Using the remote control, click on the Wii button onscreen, which is visible at the bottom.

Once you click on it, a lot of options will be displayed. Select the 'Wii Settings' option. Among the many setting options that will be made visible, choose the 'Internet' option. Then click on the 'Connection Settings' button to open up the Internet connection options which you could choose from. If you have a pre-configured connection choose that one and get connected. If you don't have one configured before, select the 'None' option.

You will be given a choice to choose between a wired or wireless connection. Choose the wireless connection. Once you do that, the console will start searching for available wireless Internet connections. Your wireless connection will be detected. Choose it and continue further to authenticate the connection by entering user name and password (if required). A connection test will automatically follow, after which you will be connected to the wireless network, after you have saved the settings by clicking on 'Ok'. Your job is done!

Connecting Wii to Wired Internet

The procedure for connecting Wii to wired Internet is exactly same as that of the wireless connection. Only in this case, you will need a USB LAN adapter that can connect the Wii console with the Ethernet port of the router or modem. Once you have made this connection, the drill remains the same as wireless connection. Switch on Wii and connect it with your TV.

Then using your Wii remote, go to Wii → Wii Settings → Internet → Connection Settings. Further, choose the wired connection option and let the console detect the connection. Once that is done, you will have to enter the login name and password of the wired connection. Once that is correctly entered, a connection test will run. After your console has been connected, click on 'Ok' to save settings and get connected.

Connect Wii to Internet Via PC

Switch on your PC and connect it with Wii using a Wi-Fi USB connector. Run the software setup provided on a CD with the console, which lets you connect with Wii on Windows platform. Once that is done, the drill is again the same old one. Go to Wii → Wii Settings → Internet → Connection Settings and choose a wireless connection. Select the one which says Wi-Fi USB connector and proceed to connect with the wireless net connection through your PC.

The designers of the console have put in a lot of thought in deciding on every one of its functions. As long as your wireless or wired Internet connection is working right, you should get connected to the Internet in a jiffy.
