Rev. David Ajemian was arrested last Friday outside of O’Brien’s studio in New York City after allegedly threatening O’Brien with letters written on his parish letterhead, postcards, and emails. Ajemian, of the Archdiocese of Boston, has reportedly been stalking the Late Night host for the past 14-months. He has also showed up at O’Brien's studio in Rockefeller Center and contacted his parents.
One of the letters written by Ajemian reported read, "I’m told by some of those officious little usher people that you’re overbooked. Is this the way you treat your most dangerous fans? You owe me big-time pal. I want a public confession before I even consider giving you absolution – or [I want] a spot on your couch." Ajemian reportedly began sending the letters in September 2006. He reportedly went to Harvard around the same time as O’Brien, but it is not known if they knew each other. Ajemian did say in one of his letters that he has been following O’Brien’s career since their "Cambridge days."
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston said in a statement Wednesday that Ajemian was placed on leave and is not allowed to minister in public. The statement read, "The Archdiocese has cooperated and continues to cooperate fully with New York authorities on this matter. Further, during this difficult time, the Archdiocese will offer pastoral support to all parties affected." O’Brien has not commented on the matter. Late Night is currently showing reruns due to the writers strike which went into effect Monday.
