Community organizations are local organizations that help to strengthen the bonds between the members of the community and work for the general welfare of the community.

What is Community Organizing?

There are several steps in community organizing process since it is a time-consuming and continuous process. Community organizing is a process by which people living in proximity to each other are brought together with the help of an organization, which acts in their common self-interest. Community organizing is thus a process that brings people in a particular area together, and addresses the issues that are important to these people. Organized community groups work to convey the voice of the people to the higher institutions like the government or the corporations.

Types of Community Organizing

There are three basic types of community organizing. These three types are grassroots organizing, faith-based community organizing and coalition building. The grassroot organizations are often movements that are functional at the local level, wherein the volunteers in the community work to support the local party, which can thus lead to helping the national party. The faith-based community organizations refer to the organizations that are religious in nature. On the other hand, coalition organizations work to form alliance among individuals, during which they cooperate in joint action for a common cause. Community organizations can thus have their own area of interest or inclination be it politics, religion or social service and general welfare of the community.

Requirements of a Good Community Organizer?

A good community organizer needs to be a good leader. In order to be a good community organizer you should be able to work with a group of people and be able to lead them in a common cause. A community organizer needs to be determined and focused about the goals. A community organizer needs to spot the challenges in the society and have the ability to come up with innovative solutions and campaigns to tackle these problems. A community organizer should be able to create a sense of unity and harmony amongst people.

A good community organizer needs to be open to suggestions and ideas and also healthy criticism. A good community organizer has to be an optimist since the number of challenges and problems should never intimidate him. He should have excellent organizational skills. Also a good community organizer should have the ability to focus on the goals of the community as a whole and without any bias. A community organizer should have the ability to design campaigns that are in the interest of the community.
