The 2010 Common wealth will be the largest multi-sport event to be held between 3rd October to 14th October. New Delhi is privileged to host the common wealth games 2010. This is only the second time the event will be held in Asia.
The Common Wealth Games is a multi-sport event held every four years involving the elite athletes of the common wealth of Nations. The first such event was held in 1930 by the name of British Empire games. The name then changed to commonwealth games in 1978.
This will be the biggest multi-sport event conducted in the India, after playing host to the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. This is first time the common wealth games are going to be held in India and the second time in Asia. The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, New Delhi.
India sports minister will head the apex committee for conducting the games while the Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi will be head the organizing committee. Seventy-two countries will be taking part in this grand international event, involving the elite of the athletes and the best of the nations.
The Delhi village is to be constructed as a low rise medium development on a forty acre site in the heart of the capital with possible capacity of 8,500 athletes and officials. The stadium will be used to house the following sports - Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Bowls, Boxing, Cycling, EAD events, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Rugby sevens, Shooting Squash, Table Tennis and Weightlifting.
New Delhi won the opportunity to host the 2010 Games by defeating Hamilton, a city in Canada by 46 votes to 22 at the CGF General Assembly held in Montego Bay in November 2003.

Indira Gandhi Arena - Archery, Cycling, Gymnastics, Wrestling

Tyagaraj Sports Complex - Netball
Siri Fort Complex- Badminton, Squash
Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range - Shooting
Talkatora stadium - Boxing
SPM Swimming Pool Complex - Aquatics
RK Khanna Tennis Complex - Tennis
