Colon Wash

Colon washing is a method which is implemented to free the colon of waste and toxic materials that have accumulated over years.
Colon is the large intestine which is about 5 - 6 ft long and 2.5 inches in diameter. The contents of digestion are deposited in the colon by the small intestine. Colon is divided into ascending colon, transverse colon and descending colon, depending upon its origin and location. The main function of colon inside the body is absorption of minerals and water and elimination of waste materials. Peristalsis, a muscular movement of propelling digestive contents in colon, is the process which is initiated by the nerves in the colon. The waste materials are transported to the rectum by the colon and are eliminated through anus. Colon cleanse or colon wash is the method which is deployed to expel the accumulated waste materials in the colon, out of the body.

What is the Need for Colon Wash?
Stomach and intestinal ailments rank top among all the diseases and disorders. The main cause for this is the improper food habits that are developed over the years. Lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle contributes to the problems such as indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), etc. The inability of the body to force the waste materials out of the body leads to accumulation of fecal matter in the colon. Needless to say, this is the prime cause for many skin diseases and other disorders resulting from toxicity of these waste materials. Thus, it is necessary to get rid of this debris out of the colon to relieve the person from the hazards of toxic waste materials. Colon washing methods implement various techniques to cleanse the colon and free it of all the accumulated debris.

What is Colon Wash?
It is an extended enema or high enema, which aims at cleansing colon by using infusion of warm water. It implements many equipment such as nozzle, Harrison's tube, etc. all of which are made sterile prior to procedure. The principle of working of colon wash is simple, water is inserted through one end of the colon and forced through the other end. While the water flows through the colon it gathers the debris which is mostly in the form of fecal matter, which is accumulated over years.

How is It Done?
It is performed only by a qualified practitioner. Firstly, a small flexible plastic tube, called Harrison's tube is inserted through the rectum up to 20 to 22 inches, or as far as the person feels comfortable. This helps to massage the internal walls of the colon and also facilitates the release of waste materials in rectum. The next step is to fill the colon completely with filtered warm water. The water is first filled in the ascending colon, then transverse colon and finally to the descending colon. This water, along with the collected debris, is voluntarily evacuated by the person out of the rectum. Mostly three infusions of water are required per treatment and all the three infusions are done in different postures. This treatment allows very less flushing out of body's natural bacteria and essential nutrients.

Colon wash is a rejuvenating and relaxing experience on the part of the patient. There is no pain or physical discomfort involved in the entire process. Often, a single treatment may not be sufficient for reversing the effects of improper nutrition over the years. Hence, 3 to 6 treatments are usually recommended in cases of mild colon problems. However, more number of treatments may be required for those who suffer from chronic constipation or atonic colon condition. The duration of colon wash is about 45 minutes to one hour, per session. The aftereffect is often very pleasant for the patient.

Sometimes, for the colon wash, certain herbs are mixed with water for enhanced effect. A massage using soothing agents like aloe vera may follow thereafter. Thus, it is an effective method of getting rid of various colon ailments.
