The first time I heard the term "colon fasting", I was 15, and I had a nasty number of jokes that came to my mind playing with the two words in the term. But now, after seeing its benefits, I have become serious towards it. That is why I thought of sharing my knowledge and experience with you.

A few people did ask me, does fasting cleanse the colon, seriously? I give them a very simple answer, that its success rate depends on your determination. All people are different, so are the systems, hence, the impact of the colon cleanse will differ.

Fasting and Colon Cleansing
One thing that you need to know about this procedure is that the impact of the fast depends on its duration. For instance, if you do a 1 to 3 days fast, wherein you restrict your consumption to water or fresh juice, you will notice only a slight impact. You will experience additional colonic release, as well as a general feel good factor. In this short fast one needs to stick to only liquids to see the best results it can give.

The next level would be a 7 days to 21 days fast. In this fast, a person is expected to consume water and/or green juices. Green juices are juices of spinach, celery, cucumber etc. The effect of this fast is that you will notice additional colonic release, as well as release of toxins and undigested food matter. These undigested food matter have a tendency to stay in the system for decades due to the modern lifestyle, unless you fast every once in a while.

Mucoid plaque, which is a dark rubbery plaque (which smells really bad) gets accumulated along the walls of the intestines over the years. No matter which type of a fast that one selects, it needs to be repeated on a regular basis to let it have better and better impact on the system. Many people do the 30 day fast every 2 months. Colon fasting not only helps detox the body, but it also helps one to lose weight. Most weight loss gurus would agree with me when I say, that a massive percentage of excessive weight in our body is contributed by undigested food, and unreleased fecal matter.

Can you imagine going about life carrying a weight of food that you ate a week ago? How terrible. Many health problems like chronic back pains, painful diarrhea, constipation, and psychological problems like bad temper and anxiety can be partially cured by this fasting procedure.

Colon Fasting Vs. Detox Diet
There is always a debate about which is the better of two. To throw light on the matter, I would like to inform everybody that they both work. Both include activities which help the body to detoxify. This detox helps the person lose weight and get healthier.

Cranberry juice detox and lemon juice cleanse, for example, can be done during colon cleansing. People who mix the two phenomenon together (appropriately) have seen faster results. However, make sure that you keep the basics of diets and the fast in mind before going in for it. For instance, if you are going for a 30 day colon fast with a cranberry detox diet, it will work. However, you need to make sure that you also include the green juices in equal quantity in your diet.
