However, colloidal oatmeal is made using the long cooking oatmeal process.

Benefits of Colloidal Oatmeal

The ingredients present in it are helpful in a number of condition. It is known to contain avenacin compounds, which have antifungal properties. Therefore, any skin condition caused by a fungal infection can be treated with the use of this oatmeal. There are saponins in this oatmeal. The cleaning properties of saponins are very famous. Therefore, one may have heard of colloidal oatmeal bath. The flavonoids present in the oatmeal help in absorption of UVA and Vitamin E. Let's not forget, Vitamin E is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It also has phenols. Oatmeal also contains starch, which moisturizes the skin.

Using colloidal oatmeal helps in relieving dry skin. Eczema, psoriasis, acne, etc. can also be treated using this oatmeal. Using it for itchy skin is one of the best ways to get rid of itchy skin. It can be used for relieving symptoms associated with chickenpox, poison ivy, etc. It also has anti-itching properties, which help in reducing the itching sensation. Therefore, it can also be used for skin conditions, which have itching symptoms.

It can also be used to make homemade dog shampoo. To make the dog shampoo, you will have to mix it with baking soda, warm water and organic soup.

Homemade Colloidal Oatmeal

When you want to make colloidal oatmeal bath or homemade facial masks, then you will have to use the long cooking oatmeal. The instant variety of oatmeal should not be used, as it often tends to lump up. Grind the long cooking dry oatmeal in a blender. Make sure you do not add even a drop of water to it, while grinding, as then you will not be able to grind it into a fine powder. After grinding it will the oatmeal add water to it, so that it becomes colloidal. When the oatmeal is mixed with water or oil, it disperses well.

You can make it for acne treatment at home. To make the mask, you will need one tablespoon of colloidal oatmeal with 1 tablespoon yogurt and half tablespoon honey or oil. Make a thick face mask and apply it on the skin. Let the natural face masks stay on the skin for 10 to 15 and rinse with lukewarm water.

You can also make oatmeal bath for sunburn, you will have to mix it with milk. Apply the mixture on the skin and leave it till the mixture till it has dried off. Wash it off with lukewarm water and pat dry. You can then apply moisturizer on the skin.

Colloidal Oatmeal Bath

It is important to use oatmeal bath in lukewarm water. It is not recommended, that you have bath in cool or hot water. In either case, it can have side effects on the skin. Add a couple of cups of colloidal oatmeal to the bath. Soak yourself in the bath for 15 to 20 minutes. Do not scrub the skin, as it can injure the skin. After you come out of the bath, pat the skin dry. If your skin condition is serious, then you may want to take a bath a couple of times through the day. In case, after you have taken bath and the skin feels sticky, then you may choose to rinse yourself with lukewarm water. However, do not use soap, etc. for the same.

You can use colloidal oatmeal at home without any side effects. It is suitable for all skin types. If you use homemade facials made with oatmeal and have a reaction, then it is best to talk to your health care professional about the same. Do not use it more than thrice a week and take care of your skin with simple home remedy.
