Collectibles : Pepsi Vending Machines for Interior Decorating

Gathering collectibles from the past is a popular hobby and also a profitable business for many people.
Many people gather collectibles from the past as a hobby and it is also a profitable business for many as well. A lot of people collect memorabilia such as popular brands of carbonated soft drinks like old soda bottles from Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mountain Dew and many other carbonated beverage makers. Some even collect vending machines.

There is a renewed interest in collecting vending machines. The earliest machines were simple self-service containers which had a cup to collect coins. Soon, automated machines appeared. You deposited a nickel in a slot, and a bottle dropped to you. When machines were introduced that had the capability of making change, it was a major breakthrough.

Few Pepsi vending machines were made in the past and are now hard to find. Competitors bottles were smaller and Pepsi bottles did not fit in the their vending machines. Also, large bottle custom vending machines was not a viable option for Pepsi.

Pepsi were not interested in using vending machines for their drinks as they found the cost prohibitive. Vending machine manufacturers had to make different machines for all the different sized soda bottles produced by the soft drink companies which pushed up costs. So collectors will find the machines difficult to source as a limited number of machines were made.

Then came the turn of electronic machines with a small computer which can collect sales and other data. In future these equipments will become collectibles. The day doesn't seem far when you can find a soda dispenser machine by swiping your card. Machines dispensing cans and 20 ounce size unbreakable bottles are quite familiar. Currently these models are not regarded as collectibles, however, a few people still buy these as part of their home decor.

Working models of the hard to find machines that dispense a fountain style drink in a cup is a favorite type of collectible. Many of the older models were quite small and easily placed on a table or counter. Although these machines are space saving many collectors prefer the larger ones and will make room for them.
