Coincidence

It's a sad story. And yes, I'm back for more.
Coincidence is a fickle fiend
And all our lives are so coincidentally mean
Shooting stars and fights in bars
Candidacy for coincident queen

As I just sat upon a bench
Smoke still rising from my cigarette
Contemplating the coincidental scene
That had been placed in front of me

A little boy sat with tears in his eyes
I knew how he felt since I wanted to cry
My sister just died from a coincidental meeting
Soon after the waiter said "We are now seating."

I ask the boy what had gone wrong
He said "Nothing. It's just the song.
My mother loved it so, but she had to die."
I said "What a coincidence" as I wondered why.

Why, oh why, did the young have to die
Coincidence that life can't defy
I sat there and talked to that little boy
Hoping that one day we'd both find joy

Coincidence is as coincidence does
And we had both lost dear ones we loved
I had been gone so long I'd forgotten
My sister had a boy that she had begotten

"Look here now, boy"
I said to the lad.
"It seems I'm your uncle.
That's why were both sad."

His face contorted as he continued to weep
Right through my shirt his tears started to seep
It's strange to be talking to the unknown without danger
But then I'm sure I've heard of things stranger.
