Every day, millions of people all over the world enjoy a cup of coffee. Whether it's black coffee, con leche style, or with some other flavors, a cup of Joe is everything a coffee lover would need to start his/her day. But purchasing your favorite style of coffee from a coffee shop, that too everyday can be a bit on the expensive side. Which is why, many people are willing to make a one-time investment on coffee makers. And if you would like to enjoy fresh coffee every time you turn on that machine, it's essential to go through a monthly cleaning cycle. It is an absolute necessity that you clean the coffee maker on a regular basis, at least once a month, in order to assure the freshness of your coffee and longevity of your appliance. In our following article, we will be going over the cleaning tips and method that will make the entire process easy.

Instructions for Cleaning the Coffee Maker

Nowadays, there are various types of coffee beans which you can purchase from your favorite coffee shop or the supermarket. Cleaning the coffee maker every month ensures that the coffee beans give the perfect flavor each time. And if you and/or your family uses the coffee maker almost everyday, then the requirement for cleaning needs to be taken care of. Following are the steps to assure that.
  • The best way to clean a drip coffee maker is with a solution made with white vinegar and water. These ingredients can easily be found in your kitchen and they are safe to use as well.
  • So, to begin, soak the coffee pot in 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts water.
  • There may be a coffee filter in your appliance. Remove that and wash it with liquid dish soap properly. Also, where the coffee pot is kept, you can also wipe that area with a cloth soaked in vinegar.
  • Keep the coffee pot soaked in the mixture for half an hour. Then, keep the coffee filter in its place and fill the coffee pot with the water-vinegar solution (same quantity).
  • Once everything is in place, begin the brewing cycle. After that, turn the appliance off and wait for about 15 minutes.
  • Again wash the coffee filter properly. Use the same solution in the coffee pot and begin one more brewing cycle.
  • Do this 2 to 3 times and keep cleaning the coffee filter in between. After the third cycle, clean all the coffee maker parts properly and run 2 to 3 brewing cycles with cold water only.
  • And there you have it. That's all you need to do.
Along with cleaning your coffee maker from the inside, you also need to pay close attention to the glass coffee pot as well. You might rinse it everyday or place it inside the dishwasher to be cleaned. However, giving it a good scrub once in a while is necessary. Which is why, you need to purchase a cleaning brush which is shaped like a hook. The brush can easily slide inside the pot and the bristles can clean in hard to reach places. Wet the pot with water and add couple of drops of liquid dish soap. In a circular movement, clean the inside of the pot properly.

Now I'm not saying that only homemade or commercial cleaners are effective. What's more important is that the coffee maker gets cleaned and sanitized thoroughly. This way, you can keep away from any possible exposure of toxins from the coffee maker and have a nice cup of Joe every morning.
