Cockpit Recordings Released in DJ AM, Travis Barker Plane Crash

Aviation officials in South Carolina have released cockpit voice recordings from the crash that killed four people and left DJ AM and Travis Barker with severe burns.
Roughly two months has passed since the plane crash on September 19 in Columbia, South Carolina that killed four people, including both pilots. The private jet crashed when trying to abort a problematic take-off and ultimately skidding off the end of the runway, where it burst into flames. Officials are still investigating the possible causes of the crash, including suspected tire damage during take-off.

Former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity DJ AM, aka Adam Goldstein, were both on that flight and were able to survive with life-threatening burns after helping each other escape from the wreckage. The celebrities lost two close friends in the crash who were accompanying them on their flight home.

The recently released cockpit recordings show that the pilots knew that they were in trouble and that they were going to slide off the end of the runway. They instructed air traffic controllers to deploy emergency equipment to the scene, apparently in anticipation of a violent crash. The recordings also captured the frantic instructions of air traffic controllers in the moments following the crash, as well as tower contact with an overhead pilot who describes the crash scene as "not looking good."

Some initial investigative reports show that the plane was traveling at over 150 mph when it crashed and pieces of rubber from a tire were found a considerable distance from the wreckage. The NTSB's investigation into the crash is still ongoing and more details will be released in the coming weeks.
