Cleaning Resin Outdoor Furniture

Resin outdoor furniture is not only inexpensive but also easier to clean and maintain as compared to other expensive outdoor furniture. They are also tough, durable and can withstand harsh conditions.
The maintenance and cleaning of outdoor furniture is a bit difficult in comparison to the indoor ones, simply because of the fact that they remain exposed to harsh environmental conditions. But resin outdoor furniture is quite popular in this regard, due to the low maintenance required. Some of them are also manufactured in such a way that they closely resemble painted wood. This is especially preferable to those who cherish the classic look and elegance of wood outdoor furniture. Resin is actually a type of plastic, but is rendered very hard by a process called polymerization. So resin furniture is very tough and highly durable, and only porous finishing can leave them susceptible to stains. But if cleaned and maintained properly, they can last several years retaining their glossy look.

Resin Outdoor Furniture Maintenance

Cleaning furniture made of resin is not very difficult if you follow a proper schedule and procedure. For regular cleaning, you can use a mild soap or detergent and water or cleaning products. Make a solution and use a sponge to wipe the resin furniture in a circular motion. Then rinse it with clean and plain water. Do not use abrasive cleaners like steel wool and scouring powder for cleaning these as they can scratch the surface. Even hard plastic and metal brushes can do considerable damage to its surface and leave it dull.

For removing tough stains, bleach can be used. Mix bleach, detergent and water and make a solution. Now apply this solution with a sponge or soft brush and scrub gently. Ultimately rinse with plain water and let them dry properly. As bleach is very strong, it can discolor colored furniture. Therefore, try this solution in an inconspicuous area, before applying on the entire furniture. Also, do not apply a highly concentrated solution of bleach and detergent on your furniture. However, bleach is great for cleaning white furniture.

Baking soda is another effective cleaner for this furniture. Just use a wet sponge to scrub or wipe the furniture with baking soda and then clean it with water. Vinegar is a very effective cleaner for removing mildew and mold. It can also inhibit their growth for sometime. Just spray some white vinegar on the mildew and scrub with a soft brush. This will help remove them and prevent their development for sometime. Vinegar can also be applied along with dishwashing soap, or you can make a paste of white vinegar, baking soda and ammonia to scrub the areas with mildew. But remember to wear protective gloves while using these substances for cleaning.

Though resin furniture is very durable and long-lasting, its longevity would depend, to a great extent, on proper handling as well as adequate care and maintenance. Keeping it in direct sunlight for a long time can result in fading of the color and shine. On the other hand, keeping it in a completely shaded area can promote the growth of mildew and mold. Therefore, keep it in a place moderately exposed to direct sunlight. Do not forget to clean liquid spills immediately, as this will prevent hard stains, and thereby make regular cleaning quite easy. If your resin furniture has become dull, then waxing can restore its glossy look. You can apply automotive paste wax occasionally, to make the surface of the furniture resistant to moisture and stains.

Hope these simple tips can help you keep your furniture clean and increase their longevity.
