Cleaning Coffee Makers - How to Clean a Coffee Maker
Do you use a coffee maker? If you do use it and find cleaning it as a very difficult task, just relax. Learn how to clean a coffee maker in a few easy steps.
Even though you use the coffee maker rarely, you should clean it from time to time. So, this goes without saying that frequent users must clean it every month without fail. Cleaning will remove all the impurities and old deposits from the coffee maker. These remains lead to bitter taste in the coffee. Hence, it needs to be cleaned regularly like any other utensils in your house. Though the procedure is different from that used for the regular utensils in your kitchen, it is not at all difficult. Cleaning will also increase the life of your coffee maker.
But, before you start the procedure, just remember to never use soap to clean the entire coffee maker. Soap and detergent may leave a residue behind them causing damage to the coffee maker and making your coffee taste horrible. Some commercial kits are also available in the market for cleaning the same, but you can just follow a simple procedure on your own and have a clean coffee maker and a delicious coffee of course!
Ten Steps to Cleaning a Coffee Maker
Things you will need:
- Water
- White vinegar.
Step 2: Place the filter in the filter basket. If your machine is of a type which does not take filter paper then skip step 2 and follow step 3.
Step 3: Replace the pot on the coffee maker.
Step 4: Pour the mixture of water and white vinegar into the water reservoir of the coffee maker. Turn on the coffee maker.
Step 5: Let the solution drain into the pot. Vinegar acts as a deodorizer during this process.
Step 6: Now turn off the coffee maker. Remove the mixture and wait for 15-20 minutes for the pot to cool down.
Step 7: Rinse the pot and the filter thoroughly. Use warm water for this.
Step 8: Pour clean water into the coffee maker. Now, turn it on again.
Step 9: Allow all the water to enter the pot. Let the pot cool down for 15 -20 minutes and then remove the water and rinse properly. Repeat step 8 and step 9 one more time to get the best results.
Step 10: Wipe the outer side of the coffee maker with a wet sponge. You can also dip the sponge in soap water and use it. Don't forget to wipe the bottom surface as it is many a times very sticky.
