Clay Beads Are Easy To Make

Making clay beads is a simple process. The designs and colors that you can come up with are practically endless.
Ever think of making your own clay beads? What if you could use a substance which isn't clay but can be molded, shaped, baked, and painted to come up with practically any design that you would like. What you may be looking for is what some call modeling clay or polymer clay.

Polymer clay can be molded into a number of different jewelry creations. In its basic form, you can take polymer clay and roll it into a form which will end up being clay beads. From there you bake the polymer clay in an oven, usually at about 212 to 270 degrees for a period of about 15 to 20 minutes. Once the clay is hard, you can sand it, drill it, slice the polymer clay and then paint it, stamp, or tattoo the clay to turn out gorgeous clay beads.

With polymer clay, you can be very creative. You can not only create clay beads but why not try your hand at necklaces, pendants, earrings, and bracelets? Some even add their own design to clothes or purses.

When you move beyond basic clay beads and hand rolling, you can buy specific tools which will help you get the exact look you have in mind. Perhaps the best tool for working with polymer clay is a bead rolling machine. My recommendation is to first learn to make work with polymer clay by hand and then use a bead rolling machine to not only speed up the process of bead making but also to create cool looking designs which almost cannot be replicated by hand.

If you've spent some time in a hobby store, you may already know that polymer clay comes in a number of colors. Why not take advantage of that and start with a color which will most closely match the next outfit that you are going to wear. On the other hand, you may choose to go with a specific brand called Fimo, which also offers a glow in the dark clay.

With the variety of colors that are available, it is easy to create beautiful clay bead designs that are not only homemade, but nearly impossible to find in a store. Perhaps you can let your creative or artistic side come out and mix different colored polymer clay to make a number of clay beads.

It's all up to you because this means having fun and making your own designs. Here is another idea. What I like to do is to go to my local bead store or shop on the Internet and find molds that work great with polymer clay. These molds come in the form of Halloween characters, Christmas designs, sports teams, and so much more.

My personal favorite is to invite some friends over to either make clay beads or another jewelry item which we then give away to each other at the party. Making clay beads is fun and I hope that you enjoy this hobby as much as I do.
