City Of Ruins - Chapter One

The Human race is known to be endangered and the world has turned to ruins. Can anyone restore humanity in the world?
Quick note, you must read the City Of Ruins Preface before you read this. thank you.

Where was I? Somewhere underground perhaps? It was defiantly dark and cold and felt like there was very little air of which I could breathe with. My whole body was shaking and I was in pain all over. My head was spinning so fast it felt like it would come off any second. My eyesight was blurred and I could barely move my head a single length. What was happening? Why do I feel this way? I kept control of my breaths as easy as I could and soon enough my eyesight began to come back to me and I could soon see where I was, or at least where I thought I was. It appears that I was right and I was somewhere underground in a type of science lab. I could tell because of all the weird machines surrounding me and the desks and all the science equipment, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

I was also lying down on my back on some sort of table that was as cold as metal, it was made out of metal which would explain it. I was sore all over and I didn't know why but the worst was my head. It was throbbing so bad the room wouldn't stop spinning and a part of me knew that was a bad thing.

When I sat up I looked down on my naked body and saw why I was in so much pain. It looked as if half the skin on my leg was ripped right off. The blood was gushing everywhere and it looked much more painful than it felt. There were also these big purple circles covering my entire body, from the tip of my shoulder down my arm and doing a full circle before continuing up my other arm.
I looked so bad I felt like a zombie that just awoke from the dead. But like I said the worst pain was my head and I didn't want to check that out as I was too afraid of what it might look like.
I painfully and as carefully as I could manage, got up from the table and tried to get my balance. My feet ached and as did my legs but I shot through the pain. As soon as I started to walk I was alright.

Crash!

I fell to the hard tiled floor with a painful thud. I had tripped over something. It was a body. A body of a man was lying on the floor wearing a lab coat. His bright red hair and glasses shone through the darkness. Poor guy was the first thing I remember thinking, the second was wondering if I was the one that killed him. No, I couldn't just kill a guy in cold blood. What if he was evil and it was self-defense? Then I guess it would be alright if I just explain that to whoever asked. As soon as I regain my balance I walked over and kneeled beside him. For what I could tell he was killed by a bullet wound to the neck as the blood was everywhere. I dipped my finger in the dark red and it was cold which means he had been dead a while. How did I know all this? Hell I don't even know who I am and yet I know how long a person has been dead for by feeling the temperature of the blood. That didn't make my stomach feel so good.

I got up off the floor and went to a nearby locker, the only one that wasn't locked. It was freezing under here and I needed to get some clothes. All I could find was some weird-looking pants and a small singlet. I realized later on that they were cow skin pants and were made from the skin of the cows. They were quite ugly but had to do. I slipped them on, carefully watching my bruises, and then put the top over my head.

After I was dressed I turned around and saw a girl. At the time I thought it was a complete stranger but then when I moved around and looked down at her clothes, I realized that the girl was me. I was looking at myself through a mirror for the first time since I awoke. My hair was long, all the way down to my waist and it was coated in a thick layer of black. My skin was a russet color and was still covered in the purple spots, like a type of animal. I looked to be in my early 20s or even late teens, younger than I would have expected me to be. My head seemed to be perfectly fine, nothing wrong with it like I had expected, which was a bit strange. Then I remember noticing something on my right hand, it was a type of symbol and it looked to be in another language. I had seen this symbol somewhere before but my head couldn't get around the throbbing to know where. I was quite worried about it because whenever I glanced at my hand worry would wash over me and that wasn't a good sign.

I began to walk again but the pain in my leg came back. I couldn't walk like this and allow it to keep bleeding. I ran up to the dead body and grabbed a handful of his lab coat; I ripped off as much as I needed and wrapped it around the wound on my leg. I then tied the ripped coat up as tight as it would allow, stopping the bleeding.

After exploring my way around a little bit, looking at the equipment and science machines, I began to look for a way out. Their seemed to be a huge metal door that was wide open, it looked like the best way to go. I made my way in that direction.
It was much darker in this area and whatever I was inside was starting to creak, it sounded like I was underwater. The pipes were leaking and all that was left were these tables and chairs that were all broken into pieces. Room to room I was walking and each room I went to seemed to be more flooded than the other one. Eventually I came waist deep in freezing water; I could have sworn my legs were going to fall off. It was unbearable to manage but I continued on in hope to get out of this place.

I stopped to lean against a very old wall that looked as if it was made out of metal but had been there for years in that exact spot. I could never imagine staying the same place for all those years, watching people going by but not being able to say a word to them. All the things this one wall must have seen made my brain pop.
I continued on.
Down the halls of water, getting higher and higher and higher until I would not be able to breathe for a minute longer. I couldn't believe how tired I was, my eyelids were heavy and yet I had to keep walking.

Then I heard the sound of screams and cries coming from a young thing. A baby, a human baby. A baby is down here? This place looks like no one has been here for years, who would leave a baby. I ignored the voice in my head saying that something wasn't right and I ran down the hall. The water as cold as ice, my foot reacting to the cold with searing pain and my bruises and muscles hurt like I had been attack by a wild animal.
The noise was coming from the left and I ran into a room that was completely dry besides the leaky pipes up above. I saw it. A pram was parked in the corner and a baby's cry was coming from it. What should I do? I remember thinking that it was a baby and I couldn't take care of it, but I had to do something I can't just leave it here. But I couldn't help but hear the other voice in my head that was telling me to turn back and not care for it, it isn't your problem.

I went with my good side and walked up to the pram. It was color coded into three sections. The base of the pram was pink and the middle was red and the wheels a bright white. Most of the pram was scratched up though and it was rather dark that I couldn't quite tell but that it what I remember. What didn't struck me as strange but should have is that I know what a pram is and a table and all these things but I didn't even know my own name or where I was.
I walked up to the pram slowly and carefully placed my hand on the handle and turned it around so that it was facing me.

Boom!

Rule number one of surviving on your own in a dangerous place. Never trust anyone or anything.
Right before the whole pram exploded I spotted with my quick eyes that the baby was a fake, a doll made of nothing but plastic. A voice recorder was stashed next to it and a lane mind was stashed underneath it.
Because of my stupidity I was now lying on the floor in even more pain, but I got right back up again and took hold of myself and tried to calm down my heart. I had no idea what happened at that moment but later on I come to realize that a fake baby in a pram is a great trap for killing off enemies or unwanted visits. People are always rushing to help a child in need.
After that I was in an even more hurry to get out of the place and get to dry land. I went back into the waist deep water and didn't trust anything I heard or saw.
Until I saw something worth seeing.
It was the strangest thing. It looked almost like a human except it was twice the size of me and anyone else I would gather. It had scales and gills like a fish and it looked mean and hungry. It looked as if its scales would be soft and smooth but in no way did it look soft and smooth.

I stood there watching it for a while, not being able to take my eyes off it and it appeared to have its back to me, looking at some of the things on the table. It looked pretty intelligent.
That's enough looking for one day, I thought.
I began to turn around and continue to look for my way out when I knocked a lamp off one of the tables and it smashed into a million pieces on the ground. As soon as the thing saw me it began to chase after me. I ran as fast as I could throw the icy water and I hoped it would slow it down but it just made it faster. I ran and ran and ran and ran and ran. Faster and faster and faster and faster. It ran faster than me though and was catching up quicker than expected. I finally came to stairs leading down into the water. Without thinking I jumped in and began to swim for the life of me. My face felt like it just received a slap the stung for years and my leg couldn't handle the kicking as I swam but I had no choice.

It then grabbed me and had me in a huge lock and began to turn in the water very quick. As if it was trying to drown me. I grabbed its arms that were around my stomach and head butted it right in the face. It screamed a sound I had never heard and swam to the surface. I realized I needed to breathe too but I was still holding my breath and didn't feel like I had to so I continued to swim and swim and swim. Not looking back until I heard it behind me again, trying to get me again.
I then spotted a door that was wide open like the last and swam for it. I swam through the door hoping the thing wouldn't follow me and I was right, it couldn't fit. I looked back on the creature trying very hard to get its large frame through the small door and when it couldn't it shrieked.
Thank god, I thought.

I continued to swim forward until I began to swim up and I made it to sunlight.
I had made it outside.
