Circuit Weight Training: A Way to Train without Gym Anxiety

Perhaps gym anxiety has kept you from discovering the body that you can have through circuit weight training. You are not alone! Many people struggle from self-consciousness and exercise related anxiety. It may sound trite, but some people consider exercise to be a very personal activity. Sweating, looking generally "un-polished", and for those that have considerable amounts of weight to lose, intimidation from the "gym rats" can keep you from change.

The good news is that if you have a sound plan, and a way to complete your goals, gym anxiety can be a thing of the past. The major issue that people have with gym training is that they don’t know what exercises to do, and generally those who get embarrassed easily, or refuse to ask for help, can exercise incorrectly resulting in injury and fitness frustration. So why does circuit weight training make all the sense in the world for those that may be gym-o-phobic? You see results, and in a short period of time!

In all honesty, gym anxiety can only be overcome by increasing your confidence in your abilities. What is the fastest way to do this? Use circuit weight training to get you acquainted with some of the most basic, staple exercises, and use that knowledge to build a long-term exercise plan that over time may even make you into a gym rat yourself!

Let’s discuss the first benefit of this type of exercise: minimum duration, maximum return. This means that you won’t have to spend hours on the treadmill or in the weight room trying to reach perfection, it means that you can create a healthy, realistic, and safe workout plan in under 30 minutes.

This is accomplished by sliding back and forth on the scale from anaerobic exercise to aerobic exercise. If you are most comfortable on an elliptical machine, the best thing to do is to pull the weights that you will be using to strength train, and create a small corner for yourself away for the "peak interest" areas of the gym to give yourself some much needed solidarity. And then once you complete an upper body or a lower body weight exercise, you can quickly transfer to the elliptical machine for a minute of high intensity aerobic exercise. Completing a few rounds of this type of exercise will challenge your respiratory system, increase your muscle tone and your overall endurance.

Perhaps the best benefit of circuit training is the learning curve. As you incorporate different types of aerobic, anaerobic and strength-training circuits you will begin to catalog an entirely new chapter entitled, circuit weight training exercises in your mind. You can draw upon this anytime you need to and never be at a loss for exercise programs.

The truth is this, if you want to begin to see changes in your physique you will have to log some time exercising. Get educated on circuit weight training and the next time you hit the gym, people will be asking you for fitness tips!
