Chuck Liddell Voted Off Dancing with the Stars
Former UFC Champion Chuck Liddell and his dancing partner, Anna Trebunskaya, were voted off Dancing with the Stars in the fourth week of competition.
Anny Trebunskaya knew she had her work cut out for her when she was paired with Chuck Liddell. While Liddell had a very successful run as a UFC fighter and became one of the young sports most visible characters, he's never been accused of being the most athletic or agile competitor. As a result, the transition from the octagon to the dance floor was a very difficult one for Liddell. From his general dancing ability to his facial expressions, Chuck struggled to find his Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) form.
"I said you have to smile, you cannot scare people," Trebunskaya joked. "You have to look like you're enjoying yourself." She went on to explain that he "had been getting better and better… he finally got the posture going, then we got the Country Two Step and all the things we worked on…I don't know where they went. It was amazing to work with him.I have to give him credit. He worked so hard."
With Liddell out of the competition, there will likely be a certain, albeit small, element of the viewing public that will find their entertainment elsewhere. Liddell followed in the footsteps of such notable athletes as Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith and Evander Holyfield, all of whom tried their hand in dance competitions.
But Liddell is probably the least traditionally athletic of those types of contestants. His strength as a UFC fighter came from technique, execution and his own power as a finisher. Those skills don't necessarily translate well to the rhythm and fluidity required in competitive dancing.
