Paper is something we all have access to, so here are some easy paper Christmas decorations to make with kids.

Handy Wreath

Materials Required
  • Green construction paper
  • Paper Plate
  • Glue
  • Ribbon
Procedure

For the wreath, cut out the central portion of the paper plate, leaving a ring behind. Trace the edges of the ring on a piece of green construction paper. Next cut out the traced ring from green construction paper and stick it onto the paper plate ring. So you have a sturdy green ring. Now, trace your kid's hand on the green construction paper. Make lots of hand tracings and cut them out. This activity is helpful to teach your child the importance of prayer. Talk to your child and ask whom he or she would like to pray for. Write one name on each hand cutout. Now place the first hand on the green ring prepared earlier and paste it on. Paste all the hands around the rings in an overlapping fashion to form a wreath. Tie a piece of red ribbon to the wreath and put it up. Each day before your child goes to bed help him or her say short prayers for the names on the hands.

Snowman

The snowman is one of the easiest Christmas decorations to make with kids.

  • Newspaper
  • Sticky tape
  • Glue
  • Marker
  • White construction paper
  • Old scarf
  • Cotton wool
Procedure

The toilet roll's inner tube forms the snowman's body. For his head you need to crumble a piece of newspaper into a ball. Stick this ball onto the top of the roll and stick it with tape. Apply some glue onto the head of the snowman and stick cotton wool onto the head and body. This gives you your head and body. For the other sense organs, use marker to sketch a pair of eyes, a nose and a smiling mouth on construction paper. Cut them out and stick them onto the face. Chop the sock to form the hat and scarf of the snowman.

Christmas Mobile

Materials Required
  • Construction paper (red, white, green, blue, yellow)
  • Glue
  • Markers
  • Glitter (different colors)
  • Cotton wool
  • Clothes hanger
  • Red ribbon
Procedure

Draw shapes of stars, bells, holly leaves, stockings, candy cane, snowmen, angels, etc. onto respective colors of construction paper and cut out the shapes. Have your children use these cutouts to trace their decorations on another piece of construction paper. Help them cut out the shapes. For the star, apply glue across the surface and spread glitter. Dust the star to remove excess glitter. Do the same with the bells. Next take the stocking and ask them to make their cutouts. Glue one end on the ribbon to the candy canes and start wrapping the ribbon (leaving enough gap between the two consecutive turns). For the snow man, cut out two circles from construction paper, tape them together and glue cotton wool onto them. Stick eyes, nose, a smile, scarf and hat to complete the snowman. For the angel cutout, use cotton wool to form the angel's dress. Use glitter to adorn the wings and wand. Once all these cut outs are ready, use a needle and thread to thread them. Tie the ends of the threads to the hanger that has been wrapped with wrapping paper.

Christmas Candle Holder

Children are thrilled to see their work placed on the Christmas dinner table. Let us have a look at how we can make these lovely candle holders.

Materials Required
  • Votive Candles (preferably red)
  • Small plain glasses into which the votive candles can fit
  • Glass paints set
If you are not able to get hold of votive candles, just take a few red candles and melt them in a saucepan over low flame. Once the candles melt, carefully take out the wick from the molten wax. Keep the wick aside to dry. Then take your glasses and into them pour the molten wax till the glass is 3/4th full. Then take a match stick and pinch a part of the dried wick on the match stick such that the wick remains attached to the wick at one end and the remaining portion hangs down. Now, carefully dip the wick into the molten wax such that the matchstick rests on the mouth of the glass. This ensures the wick remains straight. Allow this to dry and then chop of the wick below the matchstick. Your votive candle is ready!

Procedure

To decorate the candle holder, take out the glass paints. You will also get a black (any color) liner with the kit. Draw holy leaves on the glass with the liner and allow it to dry. Then fill the design with red and green glass paints. If you have some glitter, sprinkle it on the design while the paint is wet. Allow it to dry. Your Christmas candle with candle holder is ready to be placed on the Christmas dinner table!
