Christina Applegate Undergoes Double Mastectomy
Actress Christina Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this month and revealed Tuesday that she underwent a double mastectomy.

Applegate, 36, appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America Tuesday and said she had undergone a double mastectomy even though the cancer was only detected in one breast. She said that she watched her mother Nancy Priddy battle the disease and that she just decided not to take any chances since she has the breast cancer gene, BRCA1. Applegate said, "My decision, after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical and the one that was going to work for me was to have a bilateral mastectomy. So basically I had a prophylactic double mastectomy."
Earlier this month Applegate revealed that she was battle the disease. Her rep, Am Van Iden, released a statement that read, "Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery. No further statement will be issued at this time." Applegate said Tuesday that it has been hard and admitted, "Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I scream, and I get really angry and I get really into wallowing in self-pity sometimes, and I think it’s all part of the healing."
She also told interviewer Robin Roberts that she is "clear." Said Applegate, "Absolutely 100-percent clear and clean. It did not spread. They got everything out, so I’m definitely not going to doe from breast cancer." She said that she will undergo reconstructive surgery over the next 8 months. Her sense of humor hasn’t waned, she told Roberts, "I’m gonna have cute boobs till I’m 90." Applegate currently stars on ABC’s hit comedy "Samantha Who?"
