Christina Applegate Leads Revlon Run/Walk for Breast Cancer
Christina Applegate and several other celebrities led the charge against breast cancer at the Revlon Walk/Run in Los Angeles this weekend.
Showing that she’s much more than just a pretty face, Christina Applegate, recent breast cancer survivor and start of the television show "Samantha Who," lead the Revlon Run/Walk for breast cancer research in Los Angeles over the weekend. Among the other leaders of the charity event were Miley Cyrus and Carrie Ann Inaba. The event was organized by the Entertainment Industry Foundation and since 1993 the charity events, held in L.A. and New York, have raised just under $55 million.
Roland O. Perelman, chairman of Revlon, Inc. and co-found of the Run/Walk and Revlon/UCLA Women’s Cancer Research Program, noted "Hundreds of thousands of women and men have come out year after year to support the cause and for loved ones who have been personally affected by cancer. Their devotion and commitment to finding a cure is what has made the EIF Revlon Run/Walk so successful." Perelman went on to say "Through significant advancement in education and research, so many women today are finding resources and treatments made available to them, and with that aid they are beating the odds and surviving cancer."
Applegate, who went public with her own battle against breast cancer in order to raise awareness, was a logical choice to lead the event. Applegate’s battle became public on August 3, 2008, when People Magazine reported on her condition, which was quickly confirmed by her publicists. Shortly thereafter, on August 19, 2008, the announcement came that Applegate was cancer-free after undergoing a double mastectomy. Perhaps best known for her early work as Kelly Bundy on the long-running sitcom "Married...with Children," Applegate has also starred in numerous films and television shows, including her most recent role as Samantha Newly in the ABC sitcom "Samantha Who?".
