Reportedly after negotiating overnight Brinkley and Cook reached the agreement Thursday morning at 6:15 a.m. A source said that the current custody arrangement would stand. Brinkley will retain sole custody of the children – 13-year old Jack and 10-year old Sailor – and Cook will get them every Wednesday, alternating weekends, and alternating weeks in the summer. Brinkley, 54, will also keep all of their real estate. She has also agreed to pay Cook, 49, $2.1 million. Both Brinkley and Cook are due in court Thursday at 9:30 a.m. to finalize the settlement.
The settlement comes only a week after the trial began. The trial started off with a bang. Brinkley’s lawyer described Cook as a "chronic philanderer" and claimed that he spent $3,000 a month on Internet pornography. Cook’s lawyer described Brinkley as an "angry woman" and said she is reportedly turning their children against him. Cook detailed his yearlong affair with Diana Bianchi, his ex-assistant. Bianchi was only 18 when the two met in the Hamptons in 2005 and began their affair.
Brinkley and Cook, an architect, were married in 1996. She filed for divorce in 2006 after finding out about his affair with Bianchi. She said during the trial that her "world was completely shattered" when she learned of the affair. A court appointed psychologist testified that Brinkley should have full custody of the children. The doctor said that Cook’s "narcissism" could be detrimental to the kids. The doctor also suggested Brinkley needed to "start working on deeper issues."
