Chris Brown Sentencing Set for Today
Chris Brown is scheduled to be sentenced today to five years of probation and six months of community labor for assaulting his former girlfriend, Rihanna.
Since that fateful evening of February 8, 2009, Chris Brown and Rihanna's worlds have been turned upside down. After a period of seclusion for each singer, there were rumors of a reconciliation, then more rumors that the two were split for good. The pictures of Rihanna's beaten face traveled the world for weeks. The trial date came and went, with Brown pleading guilty to assault.
Eventually, Chris Brown posted a public apology on his website in which he explained that he was seeking help to prevent him from ever assaulting Rihanna or anyone else in the future. "I saw firsthand what uncontrolled rage can do," he said in his video. "I have sought and am continuing to seek help to ensure that what occurred in February can never happen again."
Since the incident, Brown has revealed that he was exposed to domestic violence growing up and that he feels it contributed to him eventually going down the same path.
Rihanna's attorney is expected to request that judge rescind an existing restraining order that prevents Rihanna and Brown from talking to one another or meeting one another. The amended order would only prohibit Brown from harassing, annoying or molesting Rihanna.
It is expected that Brown will be sentenced to perform his community labor in his home state of Virginia and that the work likely be of the manual variety - removing graffiti and cleaning up roadside trash.
