Choosing Colors for Baby Room
The color wheel is roughly divided into 2 types of colors, i.e. the warm and cool. The shades of red and yellow come in the warm section, while the cool section includes green and blue. Warm colors are stimulating and welcoming while the cool colors are useful in soothing the senses. Normally, the colors like red and orange are used in nurseries where a playful environment is needed. The intensity of shades of colors is equally important and one should give due consideration to this point. Since the age of 2-3 months itself, the children's perception about colors starts growing stronger and their senses are stimulated by different types of colors. Therefore extra care should be taken while choosing colors for your baby's room.
Green color is associated with calmness and peace. It is said to have a positive effect on self-esteem and creates a vibrant and lively atmosphere. Yellow signifies energy and cheerfulness. Such is the effect of yellow that even a dimly lit room is brightened up automatically. However, if overused, yellow color has an unsettling effect on children. Red symbolizes zeal and energy. It is therefore, known to create an atmosphere of warmth. The color should however, be used in combination with other shades to serve as a counterbalance or to even out their effect. Orange is one of the best baby room colors. This is because the unsettling effect of red and yellow are minimized if this combination is used. Orange being one of the best colors suited for kids rooms, many different baby room color ideas revolve around the usage of its different shades. A lively and fun-filled environment is created by the bright shades of orange, while the brownish shades of the color offer a cozy feel to the room.
The colors can also be gender specific, i.e. pink color is associated with girls. Therefore, boy's rooms do not go well with purple or pink colors. Similarly, one should avoid excessive usage of red or blue colors in girl's rooms. For gender neutral colors, any of the above mentioned colors should not be used excessively.
Neutral Baby Room Colors
The neutral colors include white, brown, ivory, cream and beige. These colors are useful in toning down the bright or overwhelming shades of other colors. White color reflects 80% of the light that falls on it and thus, helps in making the room appear larger. However, one thing that should be kept in mind while coloring the room white is that, children tend to stain it with dirt. Therefore, arrangement for stain removers should be made beforehand. Neutral colors are easy to work with and complement the colors of accessories like curtains, rugs, etc.
A proper combination of the desired colors should be used for painting a baby room. The above mentioned parameters and information can prove to be of help in choosing baby room colors. Children who are old enough to decide between different colors should be allowed to participate in choosing the colors. Thus, coloring a baby room should altogether be a fun-filled activity.
