This talented pop singer and actress is the recipient of several Billboard Awards as well as the American Music Awards. This sultry singer has wooed audiences worldwide with her singing talents. Born in Manhattan in Harlem, New York City, Alicia J. Augello-Cook, known the world over as Alicia Keys is of Irish/Italian and African American descent. Her father, Craig Cook is a flight attendant and her mother, Teresa Augello was a part time actress way back then. Alicia claims music helped her get through a difficult childhood. She was raised by her single mother as her parents separated during the early years of her childhood life. Alicia was drawn towards music at an early age and learned to play the piano at a tender age of seven. This extracurricular activity shaped her life differently and kept her away from thinking about difficult situations. Alicia had a small brush with acting in ‘The Cosby Show’ for one episode. She also graduated from ‘The Professional Performing Arts School’ located in Manhattan. Alicia Keys also got entry to the ‘Columbia University’ but she eventually took a drop to pursue a career in music. Her album, ‘Songs in A Minor’ helped her gain a strong foothold in the music industry. This was followed by many more hit albums that helped attract a large fan following.
