Though chewing gum is a favorite candy for many people, the worst scenario is when it gets stuck on clothes, carpets, skin or, especially hair. To know about chewing gum removal tips, read on...
Imagine you have started cleaning your home and you notice a chewing gum adhered on the fabrics or furniture, then what will be your reaction? Obviously you will be furious and worried about how to remove it. Out of panicky, you may use a wide range of detergents and washing products. Beware! It can worsen the condition. Therefore, you need to be very careful while removing a chewing gum. Let's take a look at some chewing gum removal tips which you can apply at home.
Chewing Gum Removal from Carpet: In order to remove chewing gum from carpets, the easiest way is to fill ice cubes in small plastic bags and place over the gum. Wait for about 20-25 minutes or until the gum is frozen. Take the ice (melted by then) away and gently scrap off the gum. Another tip is using hot vinegar in the stained carpet; you can dip a brush in the hot vinegar solution to remove the chewing gum. This way, remove stuck chewing gum with less efforts from carpets or other thick fabrics.
Chewing Gum Removal from Clothes: For chewing gum stain removal from clothes, you can follow the same freezing tip as done for carpets. Another alternative to this is using light fuel (petrol or kerosene) over the gum stain. The fuel will dissolve the chewing gum from the clothes, thus allowing you to remove it easily. Remember to take safety tips while handling the fuels as they are flammable. Don't forget to wash the clothes as early as possible to get rid of smell of fuel.
Chewing Gum Removal from Hair: The hardest time in the removal of chewing gum is when it gets stuck in the hair. In such a case, you can neither freeze hair, nor you can use fuel. The best tip for chewing gum removal from hair is to use peanut butter or salad oil (whichever is available). Take some amount of any of these kitchen items and massage the hair portion (where the chewing gum is stuck) for a few minutes. Shampoo hair after removing the chewing gum.
Chewing Gum Removal from Skin: When it comes to removal of chewing gum from skin, you can use peanut butter (same as in case of removing from hair). First pull away chewing gum as much as possible by using a tissue paper. Take some peanut butter on your finger and apply it over the gum and surrounding skin. Leave it for a few minutes and rub gently. Following this, you can remove the gum in pieces by using a tissue paper.
In addition to these tips, there are chewing gum removal machines and/or equipments, which are specially configured for the purpose of cleaning chewing gum from external surfaces. You can also opt for commercial chewing gum removal solutions that are available in the market. The major drawback with such chemical solutions is their high strength, which shortens the fabric's durability. So, the best and affordable method of removing chewing gum is to follow home remedies.
